In a breaking news development, the San Diego trash fee law suit has been settled which will result in much lower monthly fees but also the settlement includes the repeal of paid parking in Balboa Park.
The agreement was approved in a closed-session of the city council at the same time lawyers for the city were presenting their defense of the trash fee in San Diego Superior Court.
At 2 pm Wednesday, Councilmember Stephen Whitburn will hold a press conference to announce the settlement of the city trash fees and Balboa Park paid parking. Reportedly, monthly fees will fall to $29 with gradual slight increases over time.
The repeal of paid parking in Balboa Park is a major victory for residents of the city who nearly unanimously expressed displeasure and even anger at the decision by city hall. More than any other issue, this one united the city — against a city government that would enact such a move in what’s considered the city’s gem.
According to a press release from his office, Whitburn will be joined by San Diego Municipal Employees Association General Manager Michael Zucchet; Lincoln Club Business League President & CEO Kevin Faulconer and Chairman Scott Bedingfield; Aguirre & Severson Law Firm Partner Michael Aguirre, and City Council President Joe LaCava.
