There’s an illuminating recent article by Jake Kincaid at inewsource about Awaken Church in San Diego and how it celebrated Trump’s election all the while enjoying its non-tax status. The church and its 7 local churches push the idea that “God” has called upon Christians to take America back and reshape it into its view of Biblical principles.
Here are some excerpts:
The day the 2024 election was called for Donald Trump, there was a palpable atmosphere of celebration at Awaken Church’s Kearny Mesa campus. Pastors at Awaken had been telling their congregations to pray — and vote — for Trump. From the pulpit, congregants were encouraged to exchange high fives and say, “we won.” They had just shared an unfounded claim that election monitors in Pennsylvania had narrowly stopped what one speaker called a “wicked scheme” to steal the election with truckloads of fake ballots.
“We’re going to get our country back,” Pastor Jon Heinrichs told the congregation, preaching in front of a massive stylized red backdrop featuring Trump with his fist raised moments after an attempt to assassinate him in July.
This is a typical message at Awaken. Part of a group of evangelical churches with seven locations in San Diego, Awaken’s sermons invoke a spiritual battle for the country against demonic forces which at times veer into Christian Nationalism, a political ideology that says the United States is defined as a Christian nation and the government should work to keep it that way. …
For years, Awaken has flouted rules prohibiting 501(c)(3) nonprofits from intervening in political campaigns. The church has posted voter guides encouraging votes for specific candidates and had pastors endorse candidates from the pulpit. … Experts say Awaken is far from alone. It’s part of a growing movement of churches that has embraced Dominionism, the idea that God has called Christians to take control of political and cultural institutions and reshape them according to biblical principles.
The movement coalesced into a key voting bloc for Trump, whom some characterize as anointed by God to bring Christianity back into government.

Thom Hartmann’s take on the stealing of this PAGAN holiday season by Western Asian Christians… quite historical! Maybe these cultists could learn something if they would read anything else? Nah…
A blend of history and hope in this piece:
Will This Christmas Hold the Promise of “Light” After “Dark”?
During these short, dark days let’s remember this ancient Christmas knowledge that illumination always follows darkness & that with love and compassion we will re-light our nations & lives…

From the ‘not snowing but raining’ region of these northern mountains on the Canadian Border, I wish you a Happy Winter Solstice!

The Canadian Border. Canada does have a problem with a lot of what goes across its border. With Trump as President again, they may have to start thinking about building a wall to keep Americans from entering Canada. A lot of the ills up there came from down south. The whole “build a wall” idea just may catch on.
There’s an incident described in my book, Jan Michael, that happened at the Washington state Canada border during May 1970. Hundreds of Canadian youth invaded the US sometime during May in protest of Nixon’s invasion of Cambodia and vandalized the Peace monument, blocked I-5 for hours and got into fights with local youngsters — while police, Mounties and State Patrol sat back and watched for a long time, not willing to get involved in an international incident. The Canadians finally retreated to their side of the border and drove off. The next day, peaceful Canadians returned to the peace monument and held a non-violent vigil of sorts.
