Vets for Peace Protest Miramar Airshow The San Diego Veterans for Peace, plus members of over twenty local groups, will be out on the Carroll Canyon Road Overpass over the I-15 this Thursday and every Thursday until Thursday, September 26th at 4-6 PM protesting the dangerous and highly polluting Miramar Air Show. As we read the dismal reports of experiencing the hottest year on record along with droughts, floods, far-too-early hurricanes and rising sea levels, the military (the world’s single largest institutional user of fossil fuels and GHG emitter) is planning to pollute our skies once again with the annual Miramar Air Show. Come join us for any or all length of time. Plenty of free parking in the adjacent Carl’s Jr. center. This is a non-violent protest and educational. There are “rules” for these protests. Please read them in the event page, they are very important. Feel free to bring a homemade poster. All supplies and banners will be provided. We will meet inside the main parking lot, where people enter into the track. Please try to come on time and please leave all companion animals at home, due to the heat. Feel free to bring a chair if needed. Thank you for joining for the horses. September 11th Wednesday 6 pm – 7:30 pm Taming the Duck Curve With V2G Event by Electric Vehicle Association of San Diego San Diego Automotive Museum 2080 Pan American Plaza San Diego, 92101 A major problem with solar power is that the time of generation does not match up with time of use. This results in what is called the duck curve where there is an overabundance of power mid-day and heavy power use in the evening. Batteries are used to store the day excess and give it back in the evening. This adds additional cost to effective use of solar systems. But what if your vehicle’s battery could be used to bridge the supply/usage gap? You’ve already paid for the battery; all you need is the connection. Vehicle to Grid (V2G) does not need to be used just to supply emergency power during a blackout. V2G has the potential to help both home solar and the utility grid. Come hear Jose Torre-Bueno of the Center for Community Energy tell us how this could work and legislation moving forward so that all EVs will be V2G capable. More info and RSVP: https://www.sandiegoev.org/event/september-2024-taming-the-duck-curve-with-v2g/

We’ve become too accustomed to the throw-away lifestyle. If something breaks, we toss it out and buy a new one. This behavior is filling our landfills at an alarming rate, and electronic waste is now one of the biggest sources of pollution. So why not learn how to fix things instead? Bring your broken, non-working items—electronics, appliances, computers, toys, bicycles, clothes, and more—for assessment, disassembly, and possible repair. We’ll provide workspace, specialty tools, and guidance to help you take apart and troubleshoot your item. Even if we can’t fix it, you’ll learn more about how it was made and works. This event is fun for the whole family, so bring your kids! We are expanding rapidly and will host events all over San Diego County .Info: https://events.humanitix.com/sdfixitclinic_ranchosantafe?hxchl=hex-pfl and https://events.humanitix.com/sdfixitclinic_spring-valley?hxchl=hex-pfl
