The San Diego City Council unanimously approved Tuesday a new funding source to pay for upgrades to the San Diego River, which officials say could become a regional attraction with recreational amenities and riverfront dining.

The council voted to create an enhanced infrastructure financing district (EIFD), which would generate money any time a parcel within half a mile of the river sees its property tax go up in the next 45 years. Combined with a separate EIFD the county government approved in September, the river is expected to get somewhere between $380 million and $750 million for a wide variety of projects.

They include parks, bicycle bridges and flood-prevention efforts that could make private-sector investment more likely along the 52-mile river, which runs from Julian through Lakeside, Santee, El Cajon, Mission Valley and Ocean Beach.

River Money?! Oh yeah baby, let’s get in on some of that! Now that ‘fill the Midway up’ is going, time to spread out that-a-way so the ‘movers & shakers’ can focus on a new area for more of that ‘private sector’ investment cash to do the same thing.

But those ‘flood-prevention efforts’ mentioned? Aren’t they going to generate a lot of ‘building’ monies, too, like fat gov contracts and all the rest that can be ‘padded’ upwards for increased private profits? Whoo-hoo!

Of course it IS a freaking river valley, a flood zone that there are real photos to give us a look at what is not only possible but becoming more and more likely as climate destabilization continues to accelerate beyond even the ‘alarmists’ worst predictions. How about one of those recent Kentucky ‘rain bombs’ dropping its load out of an extreme Pineapple Express? What do you think it’ll look like?

But no, we need to concentrate on the positive which are, of course, the profits to be made. And property taxes, revenue for the gov. Those are always good, too. 30-story luxury apartment building overlooking the river, I see so many potential income streams! And the campaign contributions to ‘lubricate’ all this that the project will generate.

What could possibly go wrong?

A-hahahahaha!
