The Ocean Beach Library Friends sent out an online newsletter with their upcoming calendar the other day and we want to share it with our readers:

The OB Library Friends proudly announce that the OB Woman’s Club has awarded us $1,500! We will use the money for programs and the summer reading program.  Thank you to the OB Woman’s Club —you are such a backbone for the Ocean Beach community.

Tuesday, Jan. 17th, 2-3:30pm -OB Library Friends Monthly Meeting

The OB Library Friends meeting will be from 2-3:30pm in the Library Annex at 4817 Santa Monica. Lots of announcements and decisions to be made ( & Alice’s cookies!).

“Krypton Yvonne” presents a delightful and innovative program involving student participation using Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Art.

Tuesday, Jan. 24th, 2:30 pm – Résumé Workshop (repeated Feb. 21st  2:30 pm)

Learn how to put together your résumé step by step with professional employment specialist, Aurora Toledo of Goodwill San Diego. You are invited to bring your existing résumé to use for information or come and start from scratch!

Thursday, Jan. 26th, 6-8:00 pm at the Masonic Center on Sunset Cliffs

The OB Friends of the Library is going to receive an award from the Ocean Beach Mainstreet Association at a dinner and awards ceremony! For what, we are not sure! But stay tuned! To RSVP (it is free), email info@oceanbeachsandiego.com .

**Saturday, Jan. 28, 10:30 to 1:30 pm at the Library Annex, 4817 Santa Monica. We NEED help sorting books!!

We’ve received so many wonderful donations but they are all in boxes and need to be sorted and shelved.  Email OBLibraryFriends@gmail.com

Saturday, Feb. 4th, 2-3:00 pm – Return of the Bassett Brothers

The Bassett Brothers are an identical twin guitar duo whose performances showcase a wide range of music from medieval to Metallica. They are really GOOD!

Little bits and pieces that need doing:

Got a table saw? We need to pare down 4 posts from 3.5” square to 3” square.

Got 20 minutes once or twice a week? We need someone to restock the Friends’ book sales shelves inside the Library.

Got social media skills?  We need to set up a “Friends of the OB Library” Facebook page and post events on other local networking sites.

Got 2 Saturday afternoons/month free?  We need someone to “host/hostess” the concert events by putting out cookies and juice treats and cleaning up afterwards.

Got an inner English teacher?  We need someone to head up the OB Essay Contest for 4th, 8th and 10th graders. It means working with Youth Services Librarian Patrick Grattan, reading essays that the children write, and recommending said essays to the city-wide program.

Whew! We are really busy! Please come and volunteer!

Thanks for all the hard work Friends of the Library.

If you are interested in getting more people involved I’d suggest holding a meeting sometime that is not during the workday, more of us interested working folks would love to join the group bu a 2:00 meeting is hard to make :(
