Surveillance video capturing a fatal shooting in which a veteran San Diego police officer shot and killed an unarmed, mentally ill man was made public Tuesday, six days after a federal judge ruled it would no longer be under a protective order.
Fridoon Rawshan Nehad, 42, was shot and killed April 30 in a confrontation with San Diego Police Department Officer Neal Browder in San Diego’s Midway District. The officer-involved shooting was captured on surveillance video from a nearby business but investigators would not release it to the public while an investigation was underway.
Browder will not face criminal charges in the incident. Nehad’s family filed a multimillion-dollar claim against the city of San Diego. The FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice have launched an investigation into the shooting.
District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis, SDPD Chief Shelley Zimmerman and an attorney for Browder argued against releasing the video. Just last week, U.S. District Court Judge William Q. Hayes ruled officials could not block the video’s release.
Dumanis on Tuesday released surveillance video showing the moment Browder shot Nehad, along with body camera video from another officer, additional store surveillance footage, enhanced video of Nehad, still frames and a transcript of the dispatch officer communication from before, during and after the shooting. I will preface my comment by saying, when these videos come out, I don’t always side with the cop, or with the person shot by the cop….
With that said, how is this cop not facing charges? The guy was walking towards the cop like he should not have been, but he had his empty hands raised in the air. Also, it disturbs me that the officer did not have his body camera recording. Those cameras are really for the protection of officers who do the right thing…. they shouldn’t even have the ability to stop or start them they should be on for the entirety of a shift.
Let’s stop acting like its 1995 and we don’t have the technology to record video to a cloud and keep it for a specified amount of time.
When we were kids, oh so politically incorrect, we would fight it out in the streets.
My teacher would grab a piece of skin above my hip, and twist, my mother and father would kick my butt if i went over the line.
In today’s police state, laden with rules, the young are unable to test themselves.
These police, one after the other, are wet behind the ears, they don’t have any street smarts, they are afraid,they are terrified. That is why they shoot first and lie later.
The more the police and the politically correct crowd control society, the less experience individuals have with each other.
As much as society would be aghast with behavior from sixty years ago, i remember those days with fondness.
We were free, free from technology, free from every group and their agenda’s. Just a bunch of ragtag guys and gals hanging out.
You get what you pay for. America, law and order run amok.
The cop murdered that man. Chief Zimmerman and DA Dumanis should both be removed for attempting a cover-up. Dumanis’s handling of this – – from trying to keep this video under wraps to trying to get-ahead of its (court ordered) release in her “press conference” – – is beyond shameful.
So maybe we need more video cameras to have a record of police shootings…

Aren’t cops supposed to be highly trained individuals? Don’t they train in some kind of physical combat to takedown assailants? Use tasers? Pepper spray? Old fashioned baton? Cops are way to trigger happy nowadays and are nothing but legalized government gang bangers. They should only be allowed to have rubber bullets in their guns. At least those rubber bullets are enough to do some major hurt but not enough to kill someone instantly.
