Some initial reports by locals are saying that drivers are ignoring the new stop signs and cross-walks just installed at Abbott and Santa Monica Avenue.

If they are, then let this be reminder that the cautionary measures taken at this intersection were requested by the Lifeguards, as they have had problems exiting the lifeguard parking lot during emergencies.

Hopefully, drivers and bicyclists and skateboarders and pedestrians can all just get along at this intersection. (And hopefully, no one is planning on adding any more stop signs in immediate area – as these should slow things down.)

Noticed these new crosswalks over the weekend and they are a great improvement at this intersection. Many thanks to OB Town Council, Council Member Zapf or whomever was responsible for installing.

Not surprising that a new addition might take a little bit to get used to, but the stop signs were already there I’m pretty certain, and the crosswalks reinforce the need to stop and yield to pedestrians.

Viva la OB!

Hi John Anderson, the stop sign on Santa Monica was already there. Not the two on Abbott, just a clarification.

Thanks for clarifying – I did think they were on Abbott before but am not surprised I was wrong.

I’ve been there at least 5x since the stop signs have been put up, and have noticed that cars were stopping.
I also thank whoever thought of this as it’s a busy area esp. in this hot summer/fall weather.
