Update Goes to City’s Historical Resource Board May 22nd
As the Update of the OB Community Plan winds its way through the official approval process, it achieved a significant boost of late with the OB Town Council passing a resolution in support of the Community Plan.
On Thursday, May 22, the Update is scheduled to be in front of the City of San Diego’s Historical Resource Board. It then has to pass muster before the Planning Commission on May 29th, and then is set for the full City Council on July 1. On April 30th, the Smart Growth and Land Use Committee waved a green flag for the Plan Update to proceed, after a dozen OBceans had testified.
Just recently, one May 14th, the OB Town Council passed a resolution in support of the new OB Community Plan. The Council released the following statement :
Adopted in 1975, the Ocean Beach Precise Plan and Local Coastal Program Addendum is the official community plan for Ocean Beach. Associated with the City of San Diego General Plan, the Precise Plan serves as the land use plan for the Ocean Beach Community Plan Area.
The Precise Plan/Community Plan is nearing the end of an update process after years of collaboration among City staff, the Precise Plan Update Committee, and members of the community. The draft Community Plan maintains and enhances the established nature of Ocean Beach residential neighborhoods, and encourages mixed commercial/residential development in the commercial district, and ti maintains small-scale character of Ocean Beach with unobstructed and accessible beach frontage, and it promotes a pedestrian-friendly community.

Also, at the Town Council’s monthly meeting on May 28, there will be a couple of speakers giving an update on the Ocean Beach Community Plan. Speakers include Gio Ingolia and Mindy Pellissier, Co-Chairs of the update subcommittee and Theresa Millette, the City planner. The meeting takes place on Wednesday, May 28th at 7:00pm at the Masonic Center located at 1711 Sunset Cliffs Boulevard.
