Flash to the Past: Original OB Rag Covers

As you probably know, this blog is named after the original OB People’s Rag, an underground or alternative community newspaper that flourished in Ocean Beach during the first  half of the Seventies.

It’s fun and interesting to view the evolution of the newspaper’s covers, as they reflected what was going on in OB at the time and what was on the minds of its all-volunteer citizen journalist staff.

So, sit back, keep your hands on the keyboard and flash through some of OB’s past.

A former lawyer and current grassroots activist, I have been editing the Rag since Patty Jones and I launched it in Oct 2007. Way back during the Dinosaurs in 1970, I founded the original Ocean Beach People’s Rag - OB’s famous underground newspaper -, and then later during the early Eighties, published The Whole Damn Pie Shop, a progressive alternative to the Reader.

  1. Thanks for posting these, Frank! I remember the first time I cruised by the Rag’s website, when most of the news was still sourced instead of provided by a rather impressive stable of local writers – these old scans kept me coming back for a couple weeks until I’d read everything that had been scanned. If anyone here hasn’t checked out the whole archive, let me say it’s well worth your time.
