Regarding all that’s being said
about Anthony Fauci’s
handling of the Covid-19 pandemic,
what he did or didn’t do
to keep us safe,
we, as a nation,
have to come to understand
that science, inherently,
is a mixture of failures
wherein an approach to a problem
put into use one day
might require dismissal
the very next day
based on new data
that has come into play,
something I noticed
without a real grasp of the situation
as a child at play
when people in charge of public health
deployed all kinds of do’s and don’ts
that had me asking my mom an array of questions
about why the pool was closed
or why the park was closed
or how come the carnival didn’t come to town
or how come people couldn’t sit too close
at the movie show,
and I remember grownups
going on and on about how doctors
and scientists
didn’t know their assholes
from a hole in the ground
as outbreaks seemed to outpace
quarantines in place
and more and more children became ill
but after a while
life, after a lot of experimenting,
was back to normal,
with me and my friends
freely playing again
as a safe and effective
injectable vaccine
was developed,
followed by an
oral vaccine.
And here we are today
enjoying high immunity against a disease
that is less severe to us
due to Anthony Fauci
staying the course faithfully
to protect us
under extreme public scrutiny,
not to mention interference
from a president
who suggested that he study
injecting disinfectant
to treat Covid-19
with a straight face.
Oh, I would say
we owe our lives
to the choices he made.
This is one of the most timely pieces Ernie has ever written. We cannot allow MAGA and Rand Paul harming Fauci. Do not let it happen. We owe too much to Fauci to let anything happen to him. F*ck all you anti-vaxers and covid deniers.
Absolutely! Dr. Fauci was there daily, helping so many of us understand what was happening when we were ALL blindsided by this pandemic. What they are doing to him is just wrong on so many counts, just witch burning in a 21st century rife with grandstanding, lies, pocket-lining and gerrymandering; we are losing our heroes left and right…Thank you Ernie!
Thank you, Ernie, for once again getting to the heart of truth. Here’s a man who devoted his entire life to the service of others, never letting his or others’ personal judgments stop him from doing his best to alleviate the pain and suffering of others. While many Americans debated whether AIDS was an affliction from God designed to punish what they deemed as errant love, Anthony Fauci pursued the painstaking work of tracking down the vulnerabilities of the disease and working with other scientists around the world to understand how to defeat this terrible affliction. He never drew attention to himself. He never “went viral” except when he was used as a target for public officials who were not even worthy to tie his shoe. Anthony Fauci knew that if he did not “take the Fifth,” this circus of a Congress would use every truthful word he said to hound him with every possible fictional crime. They would break him, financially, emotionally, and professionally. This attack has come from persons who would allow unfettered use of untested, unreviewed peptides, supplements, and cure-alls of every kind to be used by an unsuspecting public, with NO data at all on long-term harm. Anthony Fauci is a hero, and Ernie is a truth-teller.
Thank you Ernie, for speaking up for Anthony Fauci. We were in good hands with him at the helm. Politics has become very shameful these days.
It is horrific to see this man who has dedicated his entire life to public health–being crucified by political opportunists. It’s a low point in our nation’s history.
Well said Ernie! Fauci is a man of integrity who worked his entire career to serve public health. His work has helped save tens of millions of lives around the world. The criticism of him is ridiculous, politically motivated, and a hallmark of the strange political world we are currently living in.
