Both Candidates Running for District 2 Council Seat Criticize Closed Restrooms in Mission Bay

The two candidates running for city council district 2 that includes Mission Bay have both called out the disconnect.

Richard Bailey:

“If you’re going to build these facilities, you need to have a plan in place to operate them, to maintain them and then eventually fund their replacement.”

Nicole Crosby:

“There is money, and the problem is that there hasn’t been a full budget audit; we have done a lot of contracts, and there are overruns that go on contracts.”

Bailey and Crosby agree the bathrooms should remain open, but they differ on the root cause.

Bailey believes the city should not have built or renovated facilities it could not afford to maintain.

Crosby argues the closures create a public health hazard and says the city could find the money elsewhere, including by examining contracts.

  1. Nearly 39 million visits to the Mission Bay beaches each year (Googl AI) and our Mayor and City Council close these restrooms. Today I read: “The city says they are now sending in environmental maintenance teams to handle the clean-up of the public health hazard.

I have always enjoyed writing and these actions have inspired me to write my first novel, which I will begin this weekend.

It’s about a fictitious city called Wuhan Diego, where local politicians have created a public health hazard. It’s really far out, and no person of any intelligence could possibly believe it was true. In the story, politicians decide it would be a good idea to close many of the public bathrooms in areas where there are approximately 39 million visits per year.

I don’t want to give too much away, but people get sick, lawsuits are filed, political careers destroyed, and a city becomes condemned.
