We quietly accepted our non-white friends coming to our fields, our gardens and our homes without asking questions for decades. Many were a result of friends or neighbors recommendations. We made it clear in our requests to friends and neighbors, that we did not want murderers and rapists, and to this day, I am not aware of any in our neighborhood, or who worked at our home. According to Trump, we were damn lucky. According to my experience over the past fifty years, I am inclined to be sympathetic to these folks.
This is especially the case when you realize that the real purpose of ICE has little to do with removing law-abiding undocumented folks from our communities; trump knows that he must scale up his personal protection army as rapidly as possible before 2026 and 2028. And for now, it is best to keep ICE actions in our thoughts and recorded on our cell phones.
In order to understand what is really happening in South Park, San Diego, Los Angeles, Portland and Minneapolis, imagine in your mind the camo costumes being worn by ICE as gray fabric. The Felon is transforming his own Confederate Army to defeat our Union. Only last week one of his minions had the temerity to say, “if we fought the Civil War today, WE would win.!”
An ICE officer was overheard to say to a protester: “Didn’t you get the message about that f*cking lesbian the other day?!” or words to that effect.
Ronald, they did win, years ago, when they managed to put Ronald Reagan in. That was the real start to the dizzying fall we are involved with now. All laid at the feet of St. Ronnie though I will admit that it’s been going on a LOT longer than just that…
By the way, the Confederate Army has NEVER gone away. They just turned into ‘Militias’ and KKK and those ubiquitous Civil War Battle ‘Reenactments’ groups held every year all over the Slave States along with all the ‘sacred white heritage’ groups and PACS that are selling all these freaking descendants of Euro invaders.
It just took until 1980 to elect a guy that was going to really re-shape (make politically acceptable) the old system of ‘The ‘South Shall Rise Again’ that has been a rallying cry for 150 years.
On a more Personal Note:
I married a woman from Mountain Home Arkansas who came to the beach in San Diego to change her life, and we once flew back there for a visit….the Deep South was very much apparent everywhere we walked into. Including her extended family’s homes in the surrounding area, and all the businesses.
The shrines, plaques, and war statues to the Slaver Owner’s Insurrection of 1860 were everywhere. For an OB-born late-20s surfer guy with a ponytail down his back who walked out of his Ding Repair shop on Sunset Cliffs Blvd. one morning and woke up the next morning in what felt like a foreign country, I guess one could call it a ‘learning experience’ to be that deeply immersed instantly into a culture that hasn’t really evolved, emotionally at least, much from the sword-swinging, whip-cracking plantation days.
I felt like I was from a completely different universe, or maybe one of those alternate timeline sci-fi writer Harry Turtledove writes about, by the time we flew back home to Sunset Cliffs Blvd. and my reality.
And the people who own and operate this country’s institutions want to bring all of us into that reality.
