An unidentified male pedestrian was killed late Friday night, Nov. 14, when he ran across a street in the Midway District and was struck by a SUV.
Police responded at 11:11 p.m. to Hancock Street and Camino del Rio West, where they determined the 33-year old had run east across the intersection against the red “Don’t walk” signal. Then he was struck a BMW being driven by a 55-year-old woman driving north on Camino del Rio West. The woman driver had a green traffic light.
The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The SDPD Traffic Division is investigating the fatal traffic collision and say alcohol was not a factor.
Anyone with more information can call San Diego Police or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
So many pedestrians have been injured or killed in the Midway District over the last few years, there ought to be a chapter in the Book of Dead just on the Midway.

Wow, too bad another pedestrian’s life was lost. The way the headline reads, I thought possibly the driver was in the wrong. But, basically, Another pedestrian was killed when running against red light. I wonder if more people would start looking both ways if the headlines read the reality, rather than make it seem like the driver was the P-1 (at fault). For parents and teachers please, please remind your loved ones, frequently, to look both ways before stepping out into a street.
I have almost hit so many pedestrians in dark clothing crossing against the light or in middle of the blocks, I studiously avoid Rosecrans after dark.
The pedestrian fatally injured in a collision with a vehicle in the Midway District last week was identified as Keondre Alejandre, 32, according to the San Diego County medical examiner’s office.
