Protect Point Loma Town Hall — Wednesday, June 11

Protect Point Loma will hold a Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday, June 11, at 6:00 p.m. at the Liberty Station Conference Room, 2600 Laning Road.

The meeting will feature an update on controversial plans for a four-story, 56-unit (8 affordable) apartment building at 1004 Rosecrans Street at the intersection of Rosecrans and Talbot.

Protect Point Loma, a 501c4 non-profit, has organized opposition to the project, which would sit on an active fault line on a site where a previous gas station left hazardous waste on the property.

The June 11 agenda will include updates on the group’s board and new legal counsel, news of upcoming events, and a Q&A with a panel of speakers including Rebecca Vogel, Principal of Cabrillo Elementary School.

  1. I am not able to confirm this group is a 501C4. I’ve requested information because their website does not show this. There is no information on the website about who the corporation officers are either. This should be readily available for anyone because they are soliciting donations.

    1. Seems irrelevant as of 2024 since you can no longer write-off donations unless you also itemize, which is next to impossible with the $1`0K cap on SALT. This seems like a dumb idea bound to hurt non-profits.

    2. Geoff, I also researched this and the IRS has yet to list this group. I did find the group registered in CA. Officers are Eric Law, Jaimie something, and Margaret. They are taking names of volunteers and soliciting money but their Privacy Policy and Terms of Use are missing. Donations are excepted thru Venmo but who really receives the funds? They do have an EIN. Frankly I believe that they are too late to the party because a request for an injunction of some type should have been filed last year. Construction, or at least demo, is starting soon. Notices have been posted. Not looking good. And while the Navy doesn’t like to get involved locally this project will greatly impact the base and of course the hood. The project on that corner is a disgrace. But how many groups all around the city can raise funds and sue the City?

  2. They may have applied but not yet confirmed. Every community in the City of San Diego must be filing one!
