Golden Hill Community Meeting Set on ‘A’ Street Mega-Project — Monday, June 30

Residents of Golden Hill are outraged over the response — or non-response — they’ve received from elected officials and the developer of a 180-unit mega project planned for “A” Street. This outrage has been translated into organizing a community meeting set for Monday, June 30th.

Organized by the Golden Hill Neighborhood Association, the meeting will be held at Pathfinders – 2980 Cedar street for 6 pm. The group has requested all of their elected representatives to attend in person. And the developer is scheduled to hold a presentation for 6 pm.

Residents have accused the developer and their elected officials have gone in hiding as community concerns over the mega project at street have mounted.

Here is part of a press statement from the GHNA:

Golden Hill community outraged that developer, elected officials refuse to meet citizens in person for mandatory presentation

Despite repeated requests for the second mandatory presentation of the CEDAR Street luxury apartment 8 story, 180 unit development to be in person, both the developer and elected officials are refusing to meet the public in person at this meeting.  Instead, likely due to the outrage caused at their first presentation at the Golden Hill Planning group meeting, they are hiding by doing an online presentation.

This project has severe impacts on a community that has long served the lower income working class.  It already destroyed three affordable housing units for this mega project designed to be the model for ‘upscaling’ the neighborhood.  Proper safety protocols were not followed and multiple surrounding residents suffered respiratory issues on the rushed demolition of the existing housing.

The public demands to know why the city is handing out affordable housing benefits to begin the destruction of a working class neighborhood?  Is the city looking to drive this community into homeless encampments?

  1. Maybe once Gloria is out of office the public will find out about who knows what all has been hidden and why he’s so desperate to turn everything he can into a money grab. The public knows he’s driven the City Budget deficit into never before numbers. It’s too bad the public re-elected Gloria, Whitburn and the other Clowncil members voters put back in office. The public needs to stop voting for gender, their personal special interest groups, race, slicked back hair, smiley white teeth, nice clothes, and their gift of all talk and no action that has/is destroying so many of the long standing neighborhoods and communities in particularly Whitburn’s Council Dist. 3

  2. If you live in Golden Hills or South Park, mark this date and time:
Pathfinders – Monday, June 30, 6:00 pm at 2980 Cedar Street. If you ever expect to wind your way to one of the freeways that surround Golden Hill in order to get to work or other places, YES, this affects you! There will be up to 305 units for other people in their cars, hoping to inch their way to the rest of their world, but projected to take public transportation. Yes, it affects all of us, not just the nearby residents.
We will get the link for Zoom/on line presentation and post it before then. Where is the developer? Their Chicago website lists San Diego as a “target” city and you can see the developments they have here already, and what they have to say about their projects here.

  3. On Friday, June 27th, at 11:00 am – 12:00 pm, there will be a protest rally at the development site (2935 A St, across from Einstein Elementary). Please attend to show your support for protecting neighborhoods from downtown sprawl. For 100 years concerned citizens and zoning laws helped shape and protect Golden Hill and South Park to become the desirable areas of town they are today. The intrusion of this 8-story building, with no sensitivity to surrounding architecture, available parking, and affect on traffic (schools and Hwy 94 on/offramps), is what Complete Communities has wrought. It’s wrong. And it could come to your neighborhood – please join in protesting these kinds of out-of-place developments.
