Hells Angel Found Guilty for Vicious OB Stabbing and Assaults

A San Diego jury on Friday convicted a local Hells Angel of attempted murder for stabbing a Black man on Newport Avenue two years ago.

Troy Scholder was also found guilty of assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury, and a separate charge of felony assault against another victim. The stabbing and assaults occurred on June 6, 2023.

The jury also agreed with prosecutor Miriam Hemming’s argument that Scholder committed a hate crime in those attacks.

Scholder now faces another hearing to determine if he committed those crimes for the benefit of.a gang.

That hearing is scheduled for May 15. The decision on that gang enhancement will be made by Judge Frank Devaney, not by a jury.

Scholder faces 30 years to life on the attempted murder conviction.

His sentencing is scheduled for June 6. He has been held in county jail without bail since his arrest.

The stabbing was the culmination of a dispute over comments the victim made to the girlfriend of a Hells Angels’ associate outside a Newport Avenue bar. According to the prosecutor, the victim and two of his friends — all of them Black males —  had left the bar and were walking down Newport when a group of bikers ran after them. One victim was beaten and another was stabbed. The third man managed to outrun his assailants.

The prosecutor said Scholder’s victim came literally “within an inch of his life” when the biker stabbed him in the right chest, severing an artery and damaging his lung.

  1. If it’s found that this was done by & for the gang and the gang is a registered international corporation, it appears there is some money to be harvested with a good lawyer.

  2. One is left to wonder about the level of IQ these men possess. They’re in a public space with cameras everywhere. They sat in a pub with cameras everywhere. Did this fool really think he could get away with such a heinous act? Surely any fool could surmise they’re recorded everywhere. How could you be so dumb? I am confident the judge will never allow him to enjoy another day of freedom. Moral of the story-don’t join an OMCG. You will end up dead or in prison.

  3. OB is a known destination for drinking. Just count the number of bars on Newport. And drinking is a know cause for bad behavior. Why is anyone surprised?

    1. Which is why every now and then there’s pushback by residents on any new bars or alcohol licensing. There was big push back when Dirty Birds wanted to open, as I recall, at the level of the OB Planning Board (which is one reason to keep planning boards — they’re a source of public sentiment). But as we all know, they’re there and I’ve been inside at least 3 times over the years.

    2. The Gaslamp District is a known drinking destination also, yet I don’t hear about a$$hole bikers trying to murder people there though. Your argument is weak and you should be ashamed of yourself for trying to normalize this criminality. I don’t think your parents would be proud of you.

  4. The two men, one beaten the other stabbed, didn’t deserve the viciousness of the attacks. I’m glad they both lived and gained some understanding of that day. I hope they’re both able to share a life lesson with others.

    1. Share a life lesson? Not to get stabbed by criminals?? This feels an awful lot like you are trying to blame the victims here. Is that your intent?

  5. This boy will never see another open road again. His life is over. No more girls, no more parties, no more opportunities. Was it worth it? Only Troy can answer that. I am sure he cries himself to sleep everynite. He is a legend in his mind only. He has a history of extreme violence. No judge will let him walk a street ever again. He will have to share 4X8 cell with another male for the rest of his life. How could he be so foolish? How could he be so dumb to stab an innocent man in front of a 1000 cameras? This career criminal will retire inside of the California prison system penniless.

  6. I am quite confident that guys like Troy are molded by their environment. I am sure he is just an “Angry young man”

  7. Let’s see how long the “brotherhood” will support him behind bars. I wager they won’t send him a red cent. This brotherhood nonsense is just that, pure nonsense. This fool has no brothers of colors. They’re simply informants. Everyone of them will turn states evidence to reduce their sentence. They’re degenerates, not noblemen.
Confucius stated long long ago that “A man has no friends, only acquaintances.” Troy will pay for his ignorance with his life.

  8. Was he found to have committed the offenses for the benefit of a gang? A ruling was handed down this week
