in Ocean Beach

City Tacos is planning another outpost along the coast, this time in Ocean Beach. A new permit filing places their next spot on Voltaire Street at Cable Street, [4896 Voltaire St,] formerly a Tiki Port coffee shop.

Owner Gerry Torres opened the first City Tacos location in North Park in 2014. City Tacos now operates seven locations across San Diego, with spots in La Mesa, Encinitas, Sorrento Valley, and Pacific Beach.

The brand also collaborates with Mike Hess Brewing via their sister business Quiero Tacos at their brewpub locations in Imperial Beach and Seaport Village.

Featuring solid portions and creative combinations, City Tacos combines traditional Mexican flavors with local San Diego appeal. Their restaurants offer upwards of 20 different taco styles, including Pescado, Carnitas, Surf & Turf, and San Diego Carne Asada.

There’s a taco for everyone at City Tacos, with vegan and vegetarian options plus weekly Taco Tuesday specials on food and Mexican beers.

An opening timeline for City Tacos Ocean Beach has not been announced.

Sweet! The Hess/City Tacos collaboration at Seaport Village is awesome. I can’t wait to be hanging out at one of the window seats at Hess OB and chowing down on a City Taco.

Always nice to have more food options. Too bad Wyld Things pizza is gone.

Finally OB gets a Mexican food place!! I was always shocked that there was no place to get a taco or burrito in our beach community.

Of course that’s just not true. It would be interesting, though, to see a history of Mexican restaurants in OB.

The green fence you see in the picture has been covered with graffiti for two months. I have reported it to Get It Done four times with no effect. Code Enforcement said it wasn’t their job to handle, uh, code enforcement and they referred me to a graffiti hotline. That did not good. I tried contacting the owner, Gerry Torres. He can’t be found so I called the North Park restaurant and spoke with the manager who promised to let Torres know. Nothing happened. I found out there is a Code Enforcement case against the project because there is not one single permit for any of the work done there. I can only conclude that Mr. Torres does not want to be a good neighbor and does not want to follow the law.

Considering collaboration with the fine folks at Hess Brewing, this makes total sense.

Hess partners with City Tacos at Seaport Village, so there is a relationship there. Perhaps a call or email to Mike Hess would help get City Tacos to step up to the plate, because City Tacos is starting to make Hess look bad.

It might be remembered that Hess on Voltaire refused to recognize the need for businesses to adjust to the pandemic.

Now Frank….that’s kind of a lowish blow knowing what we know now about Covid.

Hess OB has giant roll up doors/windows, perfect for a fresh breeze to blow the evil Covid bugs away.

I’ll take choice over the heavy hand of our overlords any day of the week.

Respectfully…….

Ummm, and just what IS it that you think “what we know now about Covid” you might want to share with us? Kind of a lowish blow comment with the ‘blow the evil Covid bugs away.’ You do know that Virus’ are neither good or evil, they just wanna have babieeees…

Are you going to remind us that Covid has already killed upwards of 1.5 million in this country (one out of every 300 people) including the deaths not officially counted (mostly from GOP controlled states); or that it is still killing and sickening thousands weekly and the US government predicts up to 140,000+ dead by the end of the year? Or that roughly 30% who have caught it have had Sequelae/Long Covid symptoms? That the latest Omicron XBB strain hybrid might possibly kill 60million in China (their gov estimation) because it is so infectious? Maybe you should re-read some of the science posted in this thread that I’ve tried to keep update:

https://obrag.org/2022/06/san-diego-covid-experts-here-we-go-again/

I really dislike reading the science still being published but mostly ignored in favor of Capitalism that increases the corporate profit statements…and it is getting harder to find current information due to the de-funding of research and, as Trump said that Biden followed, ‘Stop Counting’ and those ‘free home tests’ certainly did that, didn’t they? Now the only metric is those that are hospitalized and with so few unable to afford that in this for-profit anti-health care country the numbers are very skewed. Nobody gets sick and then calls county health to let them know… If only Trump had thought of that scam, eh?

How many people, relatives, friends, acquaintances of yours have died of it the last 3 years may I ask? My list has grown to 21, and I know people right this minute that are sick as hell with it. I received an email a couple days ago of a close friend who caught it two years ago and continues to have memory problems that she has never had before catching it. Her doctor is suggesting contacting some of the specialists doing Long Covid research… Oh wait, those are your ‘overlords?’

Respectfully…with a little s/

Well, they were slow to respond, is being kind. But, hey, they do have great dark beers.

I finally located a phone number that got me to Mr. Torres. He was very gracious on the phone and promised to have the graffiti covered cloth removed today. I’m sure the neighborhood will be pleased to see that.

I drove by the site today and Mr. Torres was good to his word, the graffiti covered green privacy cloth around the site has been removed. Thank you Mr. Torres.
