KUSI reporter Dan Plante, an OB resident, has good news for merchants along Newport Avenue in Ocean Beach.
It’s all about classical music being piped out onto Newport; it’s about the perception that unhoused people have moved off the main street; it’s about how the community has stepped up to assist some of the merchants who’ve been burglarized recently; it’s about how there may be more police officers driving down Newport Ave.
But you have to watch the video.

As much as I don’t care for right wing bent KUSI, I’m really not seeing a problem with this.
I’m not saying there is. Plante more than any other TV reporter is usually spot on in his coverage of local OB news.
Plante is a good guy, his coverage of the palm tree murders and the effort by Keepthecoast30 to fight the height limit was better than any coverage in the city, except for The Rag of course.
I use OB Suds car wash regularly, and I was very annoyed at the fact that someone was playing opera very loud while they washed their cars (almost as annoying as loud hip hop or rap). After experiencing this a couple of times, I gave my self a dope slap – it was the car wash trying to keep the homeless from congregating on the sidewalk! Genius.
I ran into this at the corner of Bacon and Newport , loud opera music. I thought it was someone’s car but realized it came from the grocery store. I think different music would work with different people. A little Taylor Swift would drive me away.
I stopped by Wild Ales last night and that corner is indeed lit up like the 4th of July now. Bill and Monica have done such an amazing job making that spot a fun, friendly local hangout. All the staff are incredible, there’s always music, games, dogs, and great people to talk to. Those lights are gonna impact their SDGE bill, so I plan to help out by stopping in for a pint!l whenever I can!
Any chance they could tip the lights down towards the actually street ?
It’s lights up the joint too much & creates daytime.
Could they simply turn them towards the ground ??
-Thank You
There is a homeless person literally dancing to the opera music in the back of the video. They train the camera right on them.
