Aren’t those blocks of Newport outside the normal flight path? Perhaps this is actually in anticipation of changing the flight path in general? Seems odd to me considering how much lower the tops of these trees are in relation to the top of the hill.

Was thinking the same thing. Flight paths changing again?

Heck, terminal one is a go, should be quite the shit-show in a few years.

I think that is exactly it, Sam. This is in anticipation of increased flights. Terminal One will double in size to accommodate more traffic. The departure paths will surely pass over this area again. I lived on the top of Narragansett in the mid 80s and the planes were awful. That changed at some point and the planes don’t go over that area. But, they did it once, so they can do it again. The airport’s information showed how tall the trees would be in 10 years, about the time I’d guess when they hope to have maximized Terminal One.

Correction: The airport’s information showed how tall the trees might be in five years, not 10 years.

I went to Alcott Street and saw a big beautiful eucalyptus tree with a wide tree cover. It certainly looks healthy and it is not one on the airport’s list. There is no obvious reason to take this tree down either.

I live right down the street. I’m so sad about this.
