A video is making waves on social media that appears to show a woman macing a man at Dusty Rhodes Park in San Diego’s Ocean Beach. Allegedly, the woman approached a young couple who was enjoying lunch with their puppy and harassed them for not wearing facial coverings before macing both them and their food.
“So this happened today at dusty rhodes dog park today in ocean beach,” wrote Ash Sherilynn O’Brien on her Facebook page.
“This is my husband getting maced by a random old lady. We had our 3 month old pug with us. We were just sitting down eating lunch and minding our own business. We were not wearing masks because we were eating. You can’t wear a mask and eat at the same time. She kept calling us idiots and flipping me off. Then she started saying more stuff and I told her to leave the park and stop harassing us. She then came right up to our table wear we were eating, pointed the mace at me first and got a little on me, and then my husband stepped in and took the entire can. Thank god for the bystander that took this video because we are going to the police now to press charges. I am sharing this because people need to watch out for this lady in San Diego. Please share to spread awareness. That is me crying hysterically in the background because my innocent husband just got maced for no reason. We want justice.”
On July 23, at around 3pm, Ash O’Brien and her significant other took their young puppy to Dusty Rhodes Park in San Diego’s Ocean Beach. They were enjoying take-out from Phil’s BBQ at one of the picnic tables. They were then approached by a masked woman with her dog who allegedly called them “idiots” for bringing in food. Apparently, Ash became upset because a random dog kept jumping on their table during the interaction, and this resulted in the woman reportedly getting upset because the couple was not wearing masks.
“She then starts to walk around the park and flips me off,” explained Ash. “So I told her if she had a problem she could come and talk to me. Keep in mind we didn’t get up from the table or go up to her once. She then comes over says more stuff. I can’t remember what she said because I was so angry already and then automatically points the mace in my face. So my husband being a good man stood in front of me telling her to stop and to calm down and then she started spraying. Got a little bit on me and sprayed the entire can of it on him. She also put my dog at risk including her own and another one. Pugs already have bad respiratory issues so he would’ve been killed. And any other kind of animal would be killed from mace. And then as she was pulling out of the parking lot a woman went up to her car and she started backing out and was purposely trying to hit her. And then she was gone. We also had to throw out our food because she maced our food as well.”
Following the incident, the couple went to the nearest restroom to wash out their eyes with soap and water. They then drove to Balboa Hospital for the male to get treatment, then called the police and went downtown to report the incident. During the confrontation, a person not affiliated with either party recorded the below video.

Well, well, well, it looks like they have her tag #! We are truly living in strange times, strange times indeed. Lil ol lady maces people, and Trump’s brown-shirted thugs tour cities like Portland, Oregon w/ black boots, machine guns and mace. Truly, these are strange times. I think I need yet another cold beer & a shot of single malt.

Insanity is being pepper sprayed at the dog park by a fellow dog owner. Hard to fathom this unless your or dog is attacked.
On another note: don’t eat anything in the park (no justification for the spraying here). Dogs are probably all over those tables and benches….. YUCK!
This woman who sprayed needs to be banned from all public parks.

This women probably dug a big hole for herself. If her face and name become public on social media she will feel the wrath of public humiliation. Glad the couple are ok.
As someone who lived in OB for many years and served on the Dusty Rhodes Rec Council. I need to point out that eating in the dog park is not allowed. It’s one of the park rules that is spelled out on the sign at the entrance to the park. In case the young couple missed the sign when they walked in, I’m sure they figured out the reason for this rule when their table was swarmed by other people’s dogs attracted by their food. That being said, there is absolutely no excuse for the mace attack. The woman gives OB a bad name and deserves to be located and charged.
For people who don’t live in OB I can see it being easy to miss that on the sign as they are just not thinking about it. Either way you’re right about the mace attack. I think as things unfold she’s going to really regret what she did. She deserves what ever happens to her.
Yeah, and you can bet that is going to be the defense attorney’s main argument. “If they had not brought food in, they would have had their masks on, and there would be no reason for this bats**t crazy client of mine to go ballistic. So really, it’s all their fault, and we are filing counter charges for violation of a local statute and distress of my client.” Yeah, welcome to America lol
There shouldn’t even be a need for a sign. Anyone who has dogs should know not to bring food to a place where dogs run free. I’ve seen this at Dog Beach to my amazement and the people get pissed because their food attracts dogs. This couple’s only punishment should have been a steady assault of hungry canines. The mace attack was criminal and I too hope they find her and charge her with assault.
Dang, using pepper spray in that manner is a crime in lalalaland as well as a symptom of Covid Derangement Syndrome (CDS).

People that do this kind of stuff are walking on very thin ice. They don’t know what that total stranger is capable of doing in retaliation if you walk up and mace him and his wife who are minding their own business. If that old lady were beaten within an inch of her life, not a jury in the world would convict that guy.
While I agree she deserves any legal consequences that happen to her along with public humiliation, it’s a bit of a stretch to say no jury would convict him if he beat her within an inch of her life.

Probably a librrrl, too, and voted for Nader, and probably gets his dog stoned on that merrywanna stuff. And as a significant other, they’re obviously living in sin, too!

Can you imagine being her and having everybody you know see you do this on video? There might be a few that thinks this is just fine, but how is she going to explain it to her grandkids? And why is granny having to go to court for ASSAULT, and why is your picture in the newspaper, grammy?
It is Felony assault to chemically attack a person, yes? Try macing a cop and see what charges you end up with. At least a serious civil suit is in order I would imagine. Maybe she lives in La Jolla and can afford it? heh heh

What’s that percentage of the population that are sociopaths, and another % that are psychopaths? I agree with the old lady. Sure, she shouldn’t have used pepper spray, but we don’t know her side of the story. First, there is a California mandate to wear masks, and the couple are in close proximity to the entrance of the dog park – people needed to pass by near the couple. Don’t they consider the health of others and the exhaustive work of doctors and nurses saving lives? The tables are not for people to eat! Needless to say, eating at a dog park is gross and against sanitary regulations. Not knowing such regulations doesn’t excuse anyone to abide them. I hope the justice system teaches this couple a more permanent lesson than the old lady already taught them.

The hard line on pepper spraying people having lunch is simple, it’s not nice. In fact, it’s criminal. These are stressful times, why increase your stress and society’s stress by getting into an argument or shouting match about something you can’t control? You’re not their mom, their doctor, and you’re not a cop. And with the politicians emptying jails, the person you reprimand and pepper spray might just be a bad ass who just got out of jail!
It’s been a long time since somebody who was perfect walked the earth. Instead of telling other people what to do, why don’t you work on perfecting your world first? Are you practicing safe distancing, are you masked up, are you HELPING others with their mask needs?
And most of all, mind your own business. This is not the Soviet Union, this is not communist Cuba where there are block captains who rat out their neighbor for eating lunch without a mask on.

I personally feel purchasing a bred dog & bringing Phil’s Bbq into a dog park also deserves charges. I spend most of my days @ dusty. I missed this day. Definitely would’ve told this couple to pack their food & leave. I have a suspicion this woman was being a bit over the top but this man got aggressive towards her. The video is only the tail end…

From SDU-T today: San Diego police are recommending that a 63-year-old woman who was filmed pepper-spraying a man at an Ocean Beach dog park — he said because he was not wearing a mask — should be charged with misdemeanor charges including battery.
Sgt.
