Big Party Breaks Out in Parking Lot of OB With No Masks

Apparently, a big party broke out last night, Wednesday, after the OB Farmers Market, and flowed over into the lifeguard parking lot.

People were partying, dancing, having a good ol time – perhaps after the traditional drum circle stopped – but hey, guess what? No masks, no distancing. No cares.

This could be a disaster waiting to happen.

An observer said people moved from the grassy area at the foot of Newport when the sprinklers came on.

Videos of the action were up on Social OB facebook. (The photo above is lifted from one of the videos but it’s difficult to make anything out.)

Ho boy! Looks like you’re on a roll Gormlie, pissing both biking enthusiasts and drum circlers off today. I bet it’s all a ploy to raise your reader statistics, huh? Hey, btw, where is my avatar?

San Diego County plans to crack down on businesses that won’t follow the public health order as COVID-19 cases continue to increase, propelled by outbreaks in community settings like restaurants, churches, and gyms.

At a COVID-19 public health briefing Wednesday, San Diego County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said county leaders know that more needs to be done when it comes to the enforcement of local COVID-19 restrictions.

Fletcher said the county plans to set up a health compliance hotline and email where people can report any violations of San Diego County’s public health order. Right now, those types of calls are being taken at the county’s 211 line, but this new hotline would allow reporting parties to speak to a county employee one-on-one, in more detail. https://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/san-diego-county-leaders-aim-to-crack-down-on-covid-19-compliance/2375412/

Let me preface by saying I am pro-lockdown. I cannot imagine the frustration of businesses and employees that have been shutdown or had their operations reduced watching the County do nothing to stop people from participating in these kind of activities. Free to party in the street but not free to make a living?

Terrible. This, along with the drum circles gone wild at the foot of Newport each Wednesday are saddening. Even worse is the person who runs the Ocean Beach Instagram account totally props these events up as cool and posts them each week.

I live on Santa Cruz Ave. and it was so loud I could clearly hear it from my house. I drove down to the Pier parking lot where there were three patrol cars and six officers. I flagged down one of the officers and asked them to address this issue when they were done dealing with their current “client’, he assured me he would. I thought going down there in person to talk to a police officer would be faster than calling dispatch. After midnight, as it was still raging I called dispatch and told her despite my conversation with the officer that it was still going on. She could hear it through my phone. The noise is bad enough, but the fact that the City is allowing this behavior to continue puts the whole community at risk for this deadly disease we are dealing with. Things weren’t so bad until Faulconer decided to open up early against the Governor’s recommendations, now our community is a draw to people from outside the communty as a place where anything goes. Add to this, the amount of illegal STVRs operating during this pandemic drawing in people that have no respect for our community and we’ve got an unholy mess here. Thanks for reporting this.

I used to live in OB… Still love it but can’t afford it on disability income. I haven’t been to my favorite beach since March. I have too much respect for the people who live there.
Idjits wanna party… go to the stadium parking lot… plenty of room there. You don’t want to wear a mask? Stay away from other people and businesses and homes.
Things will never get better until people think of others… not just what they want. ?????

Sadly 150,000 Americans dead and counting.
These are different times, sad times, & time to show some discipline.
Please wear a mask. Don’t go out and party. Do it for your family and friends.
If folks cannot be responsible, then the unfortunate lock down will have to occur again.
And sadly, you have caused this.

Sadly a situation that’s not likely to get better. Some of the younger people that work in my building are very open and vocal in saying “who cares of the boomers croak from covid”. Scary times for sure.

Other beach cities in SoCal have enforced fines for not wearing a mask. Just like parking tickets they increase in $ amount for each successive offense.
There is a State of California mandated, County of San Diego mandated MASK ORDER.
If the dimwits that are purposefully hazarding the general public health are not presented with a penalty for doing so, we get nowhere in the fight to reopen the economy, as hot spots continue to bloom.
There were NO citations issued by the SDPD the evening of the drum circle/petri dish. Not a one.

From Fox5 in San Diego: Video from a well-attended Ocean Beach drum circle surfaced late Wednesday, drawing questions about whether authorities intend to enforce local public health restrictions on social distancing.

“I could hear it — it sounded like a full band,” said Caleb Bautista, who overheard the gathering while walking home from work late Wednesday.

Few in the video shared on social media are wearing masks or any sort of facial covering and almost none are social distancing, a view which some argue is troubling as state and local leaders attempt to get the surging pandemic under control.

No citations were handed out for violations recorded at the drum circle, according to the San Diego Police Dept. In July, the department did not issue a single social distancing ticket, instead opting to educate potential violators about the public health order. https://fox5sandiego.com/news/local-news/video-of-ocean-beach-drum-circle-spurs-questions-about-virus-rule-enforcement/

I tend to look at the OB Hotel cam before dark most days, checking out the home beach and surf (which seems to be always crappy these days). I was not completely shocked at the huge freaking crowd, the live band playing against the seawall between the steps and the grass, and that cam is clear enough to show masks on faces (except when the sun glares it out).

Or I guess I should say the lack of masks and packed shoulder to shoulder.

The largest age group now being infected isn’t the older crowd, it’s the 20-40 yr old. They don’t die from it as readily as the older age groups but they are being radically affected because this BRAND NEW DISEASE is attacking hearts, kidneys, livers, and the brain & brain stem. Massive clotting of the blood is showing up, strokes in 20 yr olds, heart attacks, sudden onset of diabetes, and ‘diminished’ mental capacity’ which is just like what happened in the 1920s after young people recovered from that viral pandemic. Again I ask people to read up on ‘encephalitis lethargy’ which is what they called it back then.

Doctor who treated Nurse Samantha Hickey explains circumstances of her death
https://www.idahostatesman.com

I am the Medical Director of Heart & Vascular Services for St. Luke’s Health System.
SARS-CoV-2, or the virus that causes the disease COVID-19, is a new virus that we still know very little about. Not only can the virus cause severe pneumonia and lung failure, but it can also cause unique cardiovascular injury. In some patients with COVID-19, the stress from the infection and inflammation causes small heart attacks that can be identified through blood tests. In other patients and for reasons that we don’t understand yet, COVID-19 causes clotting within the blood vessels that can result in heart attacks and strokes.

In addition, the virus can directly attack the heart muscle itself and cause a disease called viral myocarditis. Myocarditis can happen to anyone of any age and it is unpredictable who will become severely ill. Sometimes, the virus causes so much damage to the heart muscle that patients die from rhythm abnormalities or shock because their heart can no longer function.

Sadly, Samantha Hickey died from cardiac shock due to COVID-19 myocarditis. She was an otherwise healthy 45-year-old before becoming infected. article continues at link

Bluntly, and sad to say, stupid can be fixed. A viral Pandemic destroyed the Greek Civilization the birthplace of Democracy that allowed the Romans to invade and burn all their books in favor of the new bible, possibly killed half the population of the world during the Black Death, killed off maybe 100 million in 1918-1920, and yet the so-called ‘educated’ children of this technological society do not have the intelligence or knowledge base to comprehend just what a pandemic actually is. They don’t know any history, very little science (but oh my do they ‘know’ apps for their phones!), and like what was mentioned above, are thinking ‘let the old people die off.’ Well, who’s going to take care of the massive numbers that we are probably facing of disabled medically-damaged and mentally ‘diminished’ (Don’t you love that term? It used to be ‘mentally retarded’ but that fell out of fashion) young people? Other young people? Not with that attitude they won’t. Like Neoliberal Capitalism has taught them, you’re on your own and if you can’t get rich it’s your own damn fault.

Even more important than masks and gloves in coronavirus fight is proper ventilation
By Frank J. Fazzio, Jr. MD

On Friday, July 31, 2020, The Associated Press reported on stories circulating online incorrectly asserting if your coronavirus test comes back positive, it may be because you have a common cold, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Posts sharing this claim are mistaking CDC guidance on antibody tests for the health agency’s guidance on tests for the virus. A common cold alone would not result in a positive COVID-19 test though both are coronavirus.

Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert is a COVID-19 denier. He believes COVID-19 exists, mind you, but has refused to wear a mask on the House floor, has been contemptuous of the dangers of the virus, and has been, as usual, eagerly embracing crackpot theories about how to cure it. Autopsy studies are helping doctors understand how the coronavirus attacks the body.
A new study published last month showed blood clots were present in “almost every organ” the researchers looked at, coauthor and New York University pathologist Amy Rapkiewicz told CNN.
When the virus was first discovered, doctors thought COVID-19 was mainly a respiratory disease like pneumonia, but they’ve since learned that it can cause blood clots that can lead to serious complications like strokes, kidney failure, and immune-system complications.

A private warning about rising coronavirus cases made to leaders in 11 cities by White House official Dr. Deborah Birx on Wednesday is the latest sign that the Trump administration must end the secrecy surrounding its response to the pandemic, an investigative journalism group said Wednesday.

In an exclusive report about Birx’s Wednesday phone call to city officials, the Center for Public Integrity (CPI) revealed that Baltimore, Cleveland, Columbus, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Miami, Minneapolis, Nashville, New Orleans, Pittsburgh, and St. Louis have all been identified this week as cities where immediate, “aggressive” action is needed to mitigate their coronavirus outbreaks.

How many dead by Winter Solstice do you think? After the 2nd Wave of this hits in a month or two, and possibly far more virulent like the 1918 Pandemic 2nd Wave was, we’ll be lucky if we see ONLY a quarter of a million. Lucky! Think about that for a minute.

Actually Debbie I have a number of people (penpals!) I talk with along with being fairly regular with comments on articles on commondreams.org, consortiumnews.com, readersupportednews.org, and a few other alt news/climate sites along with here on the hometown RAG. I just attached a commondreams link to this RAG article that seemed to be appreciated but I don’t know if it’s been posted yet:

https://obrag.org/2020/06/to-be-or-not-to-be-vp-harris-or-warren-that-is-the-question

I’m also a contributing poster on Kevin Hester’s climate site out of New Zealand. Plus my publisher is waiting for the ISBN copyright number to come back from the feds (slow as pouring cold molasses) for my first real hold-in-your-hands book not just online articles on internet web ‘zines.

And I’m working on two other real books. One a preK kids picture book that I took all the pictures for (I taught preK in the late 80s/early 90s, an ECE guy). And another large book like the one I’m waiting on but about the years working large 3-day outdoor concerts across NorCal in the late 90s/early 2000s instead of heavy like this first book. Fun stuff!

Yeah, I do like to write and I’m the same in person according to my friends and family. My stepkids when they were young tagged me with being their “NOISY” stepdad but I prefer the term ‘gregarious.’ :)

Funny that I do actually listen well, too…but little kid teachers have to be able to do that or you can’t teach. My Kenpo students also tell me the same thing but they like having what they are learning explained…as do my snowboarding students in winter.

One of these days I’ll shut up…but only on this side of the curtain I imagine!

Hey, at least I got you to smile over something today, eh? HA! Not a lot to smile about lately…

Sorry Frank, I’ll try to lower the word count. But at least one of your readers appreciated the list of website links. I post only a few links I’ve read each day because I threw the tv out in 1993. I read far more than most people I know including alt news websites, science websites, too many books a year etc. Amazing how much time one has to actually read when you don’t watch tv/ news that is owned by five (5!) horrible corporations who definitely don’t have our best interests in mind…

It’s a curse I think!

Oh, and the first copy of my book showed up from the publisher this weekend for my review. No ISBN yet, though…Trump has even affected that part of the government! Nothing untouched, all is damaged.

nostalgic: thank you for the compliment, glad to be of service. I’m on the NE Washington side, about 40 miles north of Spokane that is down in the flats. This is the lower part of the range (2,500-8000 feet), on a forested 8 acre property. And no, this old OB-born surfer knows it isn’t the beach but it has its rewards especially in winter when the powder is falling. And you wouldn’t believe what the starfields look like at night without the glare of the city washing it out. What our ancestors watched! It’s incredibly dark at night here.
