Petition Began to ‘Keep’ OB Hardware Store

A petition has begun to keep the OB Hardware store alive, despite its owner from stating he was closing the storefront after being in the business for 50 years.

It just went up and just a handful of people have signed it (as of this posting, 12:41pm 11/7/18). The petition states:

“I the undersigned hereby support the idea of keeping the Ocean Beach Hardware Store, a 100-year old business, alive and well in the community of Ocean Beach. If such a[sic] undertaking could be accomplished, I will make every effort to shop there and help keep this valuable neighborhood resource in our town.”

Here is the Petition page:

A former lawyer and current grassroots activist, I have been editing the Rag since Patty Jones and I launched it in Oct 2007. Way back during the Dinosaurs in 1970, I founded the original Ocean Beach People’s Rag - OB’s famous underground newspaper -, and then later during the early Eighties, published The Whole Damn Pie Shop, a progressive alternative to the Reader.

  1. But from the last article on this, it seemed like the couple just wanted to retire! If someone wants to buy it and take over that’s one thing, but if they want to retire that’s their decision and and should be respected.

  2. Wow! When I posted this on Wed., there had been 5 signatories to the petition; as of right now, there are 180.
