A group of students from Point Loma High School’s Cinematic Arts class has made a PSA of students voicing their concerns with President Elect Donald Trump.

For a semester I was the Student Body President, giving me my first taste of politics, and Doug had a semester with the school newspaper in his senior year which laid the foundation for his love of journalism. I’m with you, Frank, as to the “Great video!” comment. It’s very nice for young people to be aware and concerned about what is happening in our country.
The world is a lot more complicated than when I was growing up many yrs. ago.
That’s cute. Now turn off the TV, go out and get a job, support yourself, and then I’ll be more interested in what your opinion is.
Really important for young people to understand what’s going down in our ol US of A; were you so aware when you were their age?

When I was a baby in high school, images of the U.S. bombing the shit out of various parts of Indo China were on the nightly news. Some of my buddies had plans to evade the draft; luckily, the draft ended sometime in ’73, & the Board didn’t catch me until I tried to register for college. Funny that, you can’t register for a college education unless you have registered for the draft.
With the newfangled social media I would say that a much higher percentage of high school teenagers are savvy to the Swamp in the Beltway. Now, there’s a new squirrelly-tailed pompadour swamp leader. I’d say that since LBJ those swamp gases have gotten much more toxic, so toxis that the EPA should. . . . Wait, hasn’t the EPA been gutted?
So far the EPA that Richard Nixon created is still intact. He was able to that despite being saddled with the burden of LBJ/JFKs war. Which I dont blame anyone for avoiding.
John, I’m certain that you have heard of the Nixon invasion of Cambodia and Laos – which set off a massive rebellion among college and high school students and teachers; Nixon definitely made the war his, especially after promising “peace” when he campaigned in 68. For you to saddle only “LBJ/ JFK” with the Vietnam war is disingenuous at the least. You seem to only criticize the Democrats and avoid the Republicans, which displays a strong partisanship.
Nixons’ actions were rightfully viewed as an expansion with potential of prolonging the war and killing more Americans with very ambiguous goals fighting an ideology, that what people were enraged about. Their concerns were valid and rational, and it was no longer just the left being skeptical. I am not about to portray people avoiding conscription at that point-or really any point in the war in a bad light. I wasn’t there and recognize even positioned to the right of many here what a failed policy Vietnam was, pick your point in its timeline.
However, and please educate me if this is wrong, Nixons’ intentions at that point were on winning the war, and intercepting the supply lines (from nations fighting us by proxy)in those countries as well as bombing Hanoi were perceived as necessary.
Of course the path to peace had different routes and that of the right which would insist on appearance of “victory” (impossible at any point I concede) would have seemed the most difficult and deadly.
As for bias, well, yup. We all have it. As long as I am not here to be an ass and we can share facts- and I am cool if those facts are merely acknowledged and used to advance your position, if you have the wisdom to use it to your advantage-then it makes us both the better for it.
I’ve always come here for local news, you’re the best, but end up interjecting alternate commentary when it appears it is absent.

John is correct. And Nixon opened door to China as well. Democrats have been so busy chasing Republicans to the right they have lost the Great Society platform. Obamacare (Romneycare) is not Great Society.
Today President Trump pulled the plug on US involvement in TPP. Bernie Sanders and I applaud Trump’s trade policies so far. Hillary Clinton’s campaign supported TPP. I found that quite troubling and telling as to her true allegiances.
A while back, Frank you asked me if I would attened anti-Trump protests. I would have if I was able to make it, but I also would have attended anti-Hillary protests if she was President. It’s not all black and white Frank. Plenty of blame for the mess we are in on both sides of aisle. Democrats have chased Republicans to the right of Nixon quite apparently.
John, you continue to debate the 2016 election, you continue to equate Trump and Hillary as being equally bad, you’re agreeing with conservative commenters and with Trump. Plus you refuse to answer my direct question to you on whether you believe Trump is a fascist. This tells me, or confirms it for me, that you refuse to understand the significance of what just happened in this country.

This country survived, barely, eight years of George W Bush. Honestly, I saw a great deal of fascism rise from that administration. For example, the centralized electronic surveillance state which defies 4thAmendment by accumulating data on all Americans. Additionally on corporate side the rise of Facebook Google et al which accumulates data on everyone passing through their webs. The rules of engagement Geneva Conventions have been dismantled by US actions Abu Gharib, Guantanomo Bay, unreleased CIA torture report! How can anyone stand by Obama there? CIA illegally spied on Senate Oversight Commitee while finalizing report even! Jeez Frank I could go on and on about how former administrations led to Trumps election. Starting with Bill Clinton who signed NAFTA which enabled US corp ease in exporting jobs. A big factor in Hillary’s demise was Trump campaigning in rust belt where job losses are REAL! How about that–Wasn’t it insane for DNC to ignore those voters in Michigan& Wisconsin ?
Democrats as tbey stand are part of the problem and voter have spoke in the last 4 elections to that. It is a party that makes speeches and then sells out Americans cheaply. I’m quite shocked you haven’t considered that line of reasoning in understanding why Trump is President. It make sense when you understand the lead up.
And by the way, comparing Trump to Hitler is a nonstarter. It does a greater disservice to victims of Hitler’s crimes against humanity.
Frank its admirable to ensure high school students are connected with political events but when portrayed with the smug arrogance of a child who isnt old enough to vote assert the President hates people because he doesnt understand them-implying the child does… well my own reaction echoes his.
The President, disagree as you like with his policy plans, earned a college degree. He lived in NYC on 9/11 and lost a lot of friends and business associates in that event. He has travelled to dozens of countries, sat down and consumated business deals in these places, and had marriages with immigrants from across the planet who bore his children.
I am not here to sing accolades for Trump but point out those factual tidbits that make the child’s statement above just absurd with its ignorance and arrogance.
When I was a child the minimum thing was that you addressed your elders with respect even if you had the brass balls to challenge their authority with your own impudence. The statement above reveals they are going to see themselves marginalized in life because they lack humility and think that an argument of the lowest denominator is sufficient.
I was pretty sure the “Trump won because he is stupid and we are much smarter” meme was starting to reveal its flaws. Here we see it presented as words of wisdom from children and lauded.
The rag is capable of much better.

Trump has a complete lack of humility and is unaware that his arguments of the lowest common denominator are far less than sufficient.
It’s never to early to be a sponge. But what I see here looks like more social media propaganda. I think it’s bit disgraceful to be further politicizing our schools. I didn’t have much of any political views in my high school bubble. I began developing those mostly after I went out on my own.
I guess I wonder who’s idea it was to produce this, and what the rest of the kids’ opinions were about the content. Now if it is these specific kids’ own group project for the class, then I guess that’s not such a terrible thing.
There is always the danger of an influential teacher subtlety maneuvering students to adopt a specific political or religious viewpoint. This video could be an exercise in rhetoric or a lil lesson on propaganda or simply the viewpoint of a group of students.
Teachers are often balancing on the fine line between the administration, state ed law & the parents’ viewpoint. February is Black History Month, so we’ll see what the country does to handle Drumph’s ignorance in civil rights law & history.
Frankly, when I worked for SD city schools, I didn’t participate in Black History Month. I taught black history as integrated into the curriculum, because all the Negroes I know are black all year, not just February.
As an American, I am immensely proud of all the high school students who staged walk-outs at their schools, nation-wide, in protest of Trump, not only right after the election but in response to the inauguration.
Some of the high school Latino students who participated in protests in response to Prop 187 are now in the state legislature. For instance Loretta Gonzalez Fletcher for one.

As a graduate of c/o 2016 at Point Loma I am embarrassed to say that video was made at that school. It’s sad to see how easily some people feelings can be hurt I think it’s time to grow up. I voted for trump because of his policies not his personality. And FYI He is your president he’s all of ours president

He’s already kept half of his campaign promises. He’s doing what no other president has done before and that is stuck to his word. Saying something and doing it are different things. If an executive order causes a series of lawsuits, costs thje taxpayers millions in legal fees, and is later thrown out because it is unconstitutional, what was accomplished?
The lies are many, obvious and mostly pointless.
Talking about a “massive landslide victory”, “tremendous support from women”, how sexual assault stories “have been debunked” all obvious lies on their face.
Statements like “I didn’t support the Iraq War”, “Hillary started the birther movement”, “Hillary started ISIS” and “I released the most extensive financial review of anybody in the history of politics”. What is even the point of lies like that?
Some lies are almost comical, saying “the media never show crowds”, then complaining about inauguration coverage, and citing “alternative facts”. The phrase alternative fact is a contradiction in itself.
He talks about non-existent crime epidimics in the city. The people that believe that already have their opinion formed and just want confirmation. The fact is, crime rates are caluclated and followed with great interest and have been falling for decades, and peaked around 1980.
“We’re the highest taxed nation in the world” is one of my favorites. That is a very obvious lie to anyone who lives outside of the US or knows anything about other countries.
This is the first president to have a negative approval rating on taking office.
You say he is the “only” honest president, and then say it’s been a while since we had “anyone like that”. So who was the other one we had a while ago?
I didn’t know a wall could be built in a matter of 12 days I’d love to see that happen. But it’s in the process and it’s estimated to be done in 2 years. And as far as that temporary ban it’s totally right. To come to the us is a privet age not a right they aren’t entitled to anything we are only doing it to stricter our security. So funny how people take the statements trump makes about false statistics and try to make the biggest deal out of it. He might lie about how many illegals there are here but he’s not lying about building a wall. And as far as the assault stories you may have forgotten that everyone who came out was related to Hillary Clinton in one way or another. But as far as illegals, call me racist if you want but I want them out. I am a white man that is willing to do the jobs “no American would do” . The “divided” states of America needs to bring its 2 parties, 2 genders, and multiple religions together to unite and support the president just as we would have supported Hillary, except without all the violence and hate that is coming from the left.

The point was it is way too early to talk about promises kept. Talking is not walking.
Support for Hillary if she were elected is a hypothetical. The reaction to Obama’s election is not and it was far from unity and support in many circles. Like telling endless lies about Obamas birth place, before admitting years later it was all lies.
Sexual assault talk came from the horses mouth, and got Billy Bush fired. That has nothing to do with anyone else.
