Did San Diego Police Just Shoot and Kill an Unarmed Man Who Wasn’t Even Wanted?

1600 block of Thomas Ave. in PB.

The killing by San Diego police of a man in Pacific Beach has raised some serious questions – although no one is asking them.

Now identified, Missouri resident Timothy Gene Smith was chased and then shot and killed by a San Diego Police officer around 3pm on Wednesday, November 4th in the1600 block of Thomas Avenue in PB. Police and press initially reported that he was wanted on felony warrants and was “armed and dangerous”.

Veteran cop Sgt. Scott Holslag believed, we are told, that the man being chased – Smith -, after being bitten by a police dog and after scaling a fence and getting out on a ledge, was reaching for a weapon in his pants, when Holslag fatally shot him in the torso.

No weapon was found.

The news and reporting of the shooting and killing of Smith on Wednesday was drowned out by the other incident going on that day, where a man with a rifle shot 20 or more rounds at police, plane flights were delayed, neighborhoods were evacuated, and who surrendered to police unharmed.

This is in steep contrast to how police handled the incident with Smith in PB, where the man was chased and then executed.

Now we are learning that Smith was not even wanted in Missouri, – that his girlfriend was.

According to San Diego Fox5, Smith “was not wanted by authorities in Missouri, a  bondswoman familiar with the case said Thursday.

It was his girlfriend who was wanted on drug charges … Janie Sanders, 32, was wanted on a warrant for drug possession after failing to appear in court. She was arrested after refusing to come out of a Pacific Beach apartment.

Did San Diego police just kill an unarmed man who wasn’t even  wanted?

Thank you for bringing to light the glaring lack of reporting/mis-reporting on this case.

Seems like a very familiar situation for Holslag.

From 2002 “Martin tried again to reach for something in the car, then turned sharply toward Holslag, who fired twice. Martin was struck in the shoulder and back. He died later at a hospital. No weapons were found on him or in his car.”

Doesn’t matter. Running from police is not a capital offense. Even if it was, the police are not there to carry out justice.

Are you from Uganda or Saudi Arabia or the former Eastern Euro block??

Who said it’s a capital offense? Your leap of logic is truly astounding and nonsense on stilts. Asking why he was running from the police and you question if i’m from a totalitarian state. what must it be like to live in your world of ignorance?

If you don’t want to be shot and killed by a cop then do what they ask, you don’t run from them get bit by a police dog and think they are going to just let you go.

In America police are required to have a valid reason for stopping, or questioning someone. Walking in an alley does not qualify as a reason to stop and question anyone. Maybe you should familiarize yourself with the 4th Amendment.

The Fourth Amendment (Amendment IV) to the United States Constitution is the part of the Bill of Rights that prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures and requires any warrant to be judicially sanctioned and supported by probable cause.

Apropo of nothing Holslag made $108k in 2013. Not too bad for our notoriously understaffed pd.

SDPD did indeed shoot an unarmed man that did not have a felony warrant. He also ran from police, scaled my buddy’s shed acting like a lunatic, and ignored orders to stop and lie down. Your attempt to hype liberal anti-cop hysteria under the guise of journalism is shameful.

If you were to try and shoot every misbehaving crazy in O.B. you’d have a lot of blood on your hands, I.b.whatever.

Lets see if the SDPD releases body cam video this time. Don’t hold your breath waiting for it. Im sure they will come up with some new excuse.

Bearded OBean, 1. Running from police isn’t a crime.
2. Even if it was, I’m sure it’s not punishable with a death sentence.

That’s certainly a leap in logic. Good grief. But why run if the police want to question you?

I think one of the more curious points of the article is when it mentioned police recognized the guy as being wanted for felony charges in Missouri? How’d they recognize him if he’s wanted in Missouri?

They recognized him because of the information they were given by the bounty hunter ! The information that the bail gave to the bounty hunter shouldve only contained the name of the person that she had an interest in , period !
But she made it appear that timmy was also wanted by the law, and it is inexcusable for the bonds woman and leland chapman “son of the “dog” bounty hunter to have provided misleading information to the sandiego

Ya know wut, timmy is a family member of mine and this is bullshit that the
“high profile bounty hunter” (son of the Dog Bounty Hunter) would give San Diego
Police mis information as to just who was wanted, and who wasnt wanted !
But since he decided to wrongly tell the Police that timmy was also wanted and armed and dangerous is the only reason they shot and killed him !
And for wut ??? Because his girlfriend had a pending drug charge ???
Im personally holding that piece of s..t son of the “DOG” Bounty Hunter responsible
for timmys death, and he should be held accountable for mis informing the Police of who exactly he was tracking and for wut reason ?
F..K THAT BOUNTY HUNTER !!! They arent exactly law abiding citizen their damn selves ! My heart goes out to the entire Smith Family who I hold so much love for !
This isnt over by any means ! Now lets see how the “DOG” likes his son taken from him when he is brought to justice !!!

This is the WIFE of the late Timothy Smith. Had Macey Bail Bonds out of Richmond Missouri not made up lies about us, Timmy would still be with us today. We did NOT have an AK 47 at any point in our lives. He did NOT have a violent criminal history, and yes, they were only looking for me for a petty possession charge. I will live with the repercussions of my decisions for the rest of my life. RIP babe, you are sorely loved and missed. You were a good man, and I’ll never forget you.

It /is/ illegal to flee from the police if they are attempting to detain you. Doesn’t mean you should be executed for it though.

Thing is, try running from a cop in say downtown Berlin, or in the Netherlands, try running from cops in London … same thing will happen: they will catch you with billy clubs and will beat your ass. However, they never have to “shoot-to-kill” …

But somehow here in the US a minor incident leads to shots fired …
