I am sorry to see the fun go, but f the fun is at the expense of the environment, we need to look at other things to be OBcrazy on the 4th. I do think fireworks have to go, they are highly toxic. If people need to travel to the beach to have fun on the 4th, lets have veggie burgers and lots of community with everyone picking up their trash.

Fireworks have to go? You are out of your mind! That’s the whole point of July 4th!

I understand what you’re saying, but fireworks is tradition! It’s what represents America! The first commemorative Independence Day fireworks were set off on July 4, 1777! Please Dana, have some spirit because it’s only once a year!

RK,
how about everyone under 40 is free to sunbath nude on the 4th? Never let it be said I don’t have spirit!
I’m 56 I will do you all the favor of staying in a suit.

Piece by piece, what made OB distinctive and a fun place to live is being whittled away and before ya know it OB will be just like every other neighborhood; boring and tight-assed. I wonder if the Developer that’s been buying up property in OB for the last few years is the real reason behind all of these “changes” and “concerns;” after all, sticky streets, kids dressed in black, and homeless people cause property value to go down. And nobody has pulled the race card.., yet. You didn’t know about the Developer with approved plans to build a Casino in OB? Yes, indeed and I betcha there are more than just a few OB property owners who also know and are trying to jack up property value before being bought out and at the expense of those of us who like living here. There are only 2 areas that allows legal gambling / casinos within the US/A; (1) an Indian Reservation, and (2) on water. If all goes as I’ve read, then OB will be the location of the first underwater Casino in the world. The last couple of years this Developer has been buying property from the San Diego River outlet, to the Pier, from the beach over to Cable Street.

Yeah let’s all sit around in a drum circle and do veggie burgers and kale smoothies.

Here’s a thought about the fireworks: before we grapple with OB’s July 4th once-a-year fireworks display, we as a town deal with the near-nightly explosions from SeaWorld of the dangerous fireworks – all over their own animals and the wildlife within Mission Bay. We deal with that first, ok?

Makes sense to me.
