The bench in front of the OB Library is now “officially” open to be used. It was dedicated Saturday, March 28 by the Friends of the OB Library in the midst of their book sale.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAA crowd formed as Judy Collier, the president of the Friends, called people to gather at the bench. She made some remarks and introduced a few of the people that have helped the bench become a reality.

This was totally a local event, and as quiet speeches were given, people browsed through the many books, videos and other items for sale.

The Friends reported that at the end of the day, they made $533.50.

The Friends say:

Many thanks to all who volunteered, donated books and materials, bought books and materials, and shared their time with us. The bench is now officially open!  Many thanks to George, Darci, Judy, and the OB Town Council for donating to the bench.

A former lawyer and current grassroots activist, I have been editing the Rag since Patty Jones and I launched it in Oct 2007. Way back during the Dinosaurs in 1970, I founded the original Ocean Beach People’s Rag - OB’s famous underground newspaper -, and then later during the early Eighties, published The Whole Damn Pie Shop, a progressive alternative to the Reader.

  1. Congratulations on the bench! Glad there are dividers on the bench.

Btw, I just shared this article on the Social Ocean Beach facebook group page.
