OB Rag Poll: Majority Supports Round-About at West Pt Loma and Bacon Street

The results are in for the OB Rag’s latest poll on round-abouts. We asked our readers if they supported a round-about or traffic circle at the intersection of West Pt Loma and Bacon Street.  We have raised the issue, as the OB Planning Board and the City are thinking about doing a feasibility study for one at that location.

A majority of the respondents answered that they do support a round-about at that site, the intersection of West Pt Loma and Bacon – 52%.  In contrast, just 12% were opposed to a round-about there.  There were a total of 67 respondents.

The majority included those who outright supported a traffic circle there – 18%, plus those who were open to the City doing a feasibility study for it – 19%, as well as the 15% who answered that they support a round-about there as well as one at West Pt Loma and Cable Street.

Ten per cent polled that they thought there were other intersections more worthy – such as the busy one at West Pt Loma and Cable. And there was the 15% of respondents who also supported traffic circles at both Bacon and Cable. Another 15% answered that they in general supported round-abouts but not at either of these locations.

Less than 10% of those who took the poll stated that they didn’t like round-abouts at all. Interestingly, no one had “no opinion” on the issue.

Our polls are not scientific, but they do gauge the opinions of our readers on local issues in OB. In this poll, our readers clearly spoke: over 90% like round-abouts in general, and many are interested in at least a feasibility study for one at West Pt Loma and Bacon.  A quarter also would like to see one at Cable Street and West Pt Loma.

Here is the poll.

  1. I don’t like round abouts at all. Especially at that cite. Money would be better spent on a traffic light at the corner of West Pt. Loma and Cable St.

  2. I am doing research on this roundabout and would be very interested to know how many of the 67 residents who answered actually live in close proximity to this intersection and/or use it regularly. I know this poll is extremely old but was there any data about where they lived?
