Calling for due process for Mayor Bob Filner – and his accusers – a coalition plans to hold a press conference today, Monday, August 19th at noon. It will be held at the Civic Center Plaza.
Declaring that the silent majority will not be silent any longer, organizers are asking “community members of color, veterans, environmentalist, educators, woman’s rights, gays, civil rights, labor, human rights, faith, unions, neighborhoods, immigration” to join them:
“as we stand united in stopping the public mockery of our judicial system. Due Process for mayor and accusers. Let’s get back to business of moving region forward with Mayor Bob Filner.”
The coalition has seven women who plan to speak at the presser, all in support of Mayor Filner or at least in support of due process and against the public lynching that has been going on for the past month. Many of the organizers and speakers are people of color, African-Americans and Mexican-Americans, and gay activists.

I don’t think due process means what the author of this post, or the supporters of Mayor Filner, thinks it means. Who is denying the Mayor his Constitutional right to due process? Trying to get him kicked out of office for treating women like garbage is not the same as denying him due process. Removing him from office does not unduly deny him his life, liberty, nor property.
Wouldn’t the OB Rag be first in line to demand his resignation if he were a Republican?
Agree. He’s getting due process in the legal system. That doesn’t mean he shouldn’t step down.

Bearded, to answer your question, over the last month, Filner has been tried and fried in the media. This is a total lack of due process; remember, here in America, you’re innocent until proven guilty.
You’re conflating two arguments. Bad press is just that, bad press. I’m not sure why the press has to respect the 5th and 14th amendments in regard to the Mayor. Innocent until proven guilty is the domain of a court room, not the court of public opinion.
Again, wouldn’t the OB Rag be demonstrating for his removal and joining the recall drive if he were a Republican?

Of course, this all could be moot, given the breaking news that Filner’s lawyers are negotiating a resignation deal.
Filner has been MIA to avoid ‘due process.’ Can’t serve papers to or depose someone you can’t find…
Further evidence that filner is attempting to short circuit due process is fact that filner’s chief of staff asserted attorney client privilege to avoid commenting on the complaints that were reported to her.Filner’s failure to submit or expense city credit card expenses will bring him down the fastest.
