Eight Signs of Republican Extremism: “See something, say something”

The County of San Diego has just released a video to warn all of us of the “Eight Signs of Terrorism”, in preparation for the tenth anniversary of the Sept 11 attacks, as part of their “See something, say something” campaign.  We would like to add to this watch our additional Eight  Signs of Republican Extremism.

People who do the following might be plotting Republican extremist acts:

• Under the guise and rhetoric of “small government”, order all welfare and other poor people who receive public assistance  to submit to monthly drug tests, as clearly the poor use illegal drugs much more than the rest of us.

• End pensions for public workers, forcing them into plans that only have 401(k) benefits and no social security.

• Do away with collective bargaining for all public employees, as they must learn to appreciate just having a job.

• Quash all attempts to raise taxes for the very rich, the mega-corporations, and oil companies who receive public subsidies.

• Support policies that make it extremely difficult for doctors who perform abortions to continue to operate.

• Pretend to be a politician that listens to his/ her constituencies while seeking and accepting large donations from corporations and their lobbyists who have interests counter to the constituencies.

• Get elected to office without saying anything about dismantling the social safety net or going after public employee unions, and then once in office, adopting policies that do just that.

• Rehearse with trial balloons about dismantling the EPA, doing away with parts of the Constitution that allow popular elections, and outlawing the teaching of evolution in public classrooms to see how constituencies react.

We are hoping that with enough exposure, those who want to be Republican Extremists will be forced to abandon their un-American and inhuman activities.

“Republican extremists always have a fascination seeing how much they can get away with,” said the public’s ombudsman in San Diego on Wednesday. “We’ll see stepped-up scrutiny of any fledgling Republican politician or group by intelligent observers.”

“The public is a critical partner in upholding the Constitution,” a local authority on politics said, noting that it was members of the public in Wisconsin who were key in thwarting the usurping of law in that state by its extremist governor, Scott Walker in February.

Pamphlets with tips on suspicious behavior by Republican extremists will also be in city and county libraries, while they are still open.   The informational background to these “eight signs” comes from the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and English Common Law.“If you see something, say something.”

The legal advocate called it “a national watch program on Republican extremism.”  “It’s hard to say what suspicious activity might be,” he said. “If you’re in doubt, check the Constitution.”
