14 Events Planned for San Diego County So Far
Please see below for information regarding rallies around the San Diego area this weekend, in response to the killing of Rene Good this past Wednesday, January 7th.
In response to the murder of Rene Good, a Minneapolis woman killed by federal immigration agents on Wednesday, Jan. 7, residents across San Diego are coming together to protest the increasing use of violent tactics by these agencies and demand that ICE and related agencies “get out.”
“What Americans witnessed this week with the killing of Rene Good by a federal law enforcement official was yet another brazen escalation against the American people,” said Richard C., an organizer with 50501 North County San Diego.
“The President has openly embraced the use of violence against those he perceives as his enemies or those who speak out against him, whether directing a mob of angry people to invade the Capitol in an attempt to overturn an election, showing disdain and disregard of political assassinations (unless he believes they are on ‘his side’), or suggesting his followers assault protesters.”¹
He continued: “His staff and apparatus are also repeating these messages of violence and unaccountability, for example the President’s advisor Stephen Miller letting law enforcement know they are now ‘unleashed,’² and claiming the president (and by extension related law enforcement agencies) have ‘plenary authority’³ to commit whatever crimes they see fit with impunity. There are at least five people who have died as a direct result of this top-down direction and agents’ lawless behavior,? and it seems inevitable they will continue to operate without transparency or regard for the public’s safety until the American people demand and force accountability.”
Multiple rallies will be held across San Diego in memory of Rene Good and others who have lost their lives as a result of federal immigration enforcement, and to demand accountability for federal agents’ violent and lawless behavior.

County Chair Calls for Peaceful Demonstrations Following Killing of U.S. Citizen by ICE in Minnesota
SAN DIEGO — Ahead of a weekend expected to include demonstrations nationwide following the killing of a U.S. citizen and mother in Minneapolis, San Diego County Board of Supervisors Chair Terra Lawson-Remer urged San Diegans to raise their voice in protest peacefully, safely, and with care for one another.
“An ICE agent shot and killed a U.S. citizen and mother, and the Trump Administration’s response has been to obscure the facts rather than own the consequences,” Lawson-Remer said. “When the federal government responds to the loss of life with spin instead of accountability, people must speak out — peacefully, with care for one another, and moral clarity.”
Lawson-Remer emphasized that peaceful protest has long been a powerful and essential tool for protecting civil rights and holding institutions accountable.
“Peaceful protest is how communities have always forced change and defended democracy,” she said. “It is strongest when it is grounded in nonviolence, mutual care, and moral clarity.”
Lawson-Remer has been a consistent supporter of peaceful civic action in San Diego in response to federal immigration enforcement practices. In recent months, she has served as a lead convener alongside immigrant families, labor leaders, and faith organizations of the regular, nonviolent 10AM Thursday morning demonstrations outside U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement offices in Downtown San Diego, calling for due process, transparency, and accountability.
Lawson-Remer is also leading the passage of the County’s CLEAR Ordinance, strengthening civil rights protections and setting clear limits on local cooperation with federal immigration enforcement to safeguard due process. She has also supported federal legislation requiring immigration enforcement officers to clearly identify themselves and prohibiting the use of masks or other concealment that obscures an agent’s identity during enforcement actions, reinforcing transparency and public trust.
