Point Loma and OB Democrats Endorse Mandy Havlik for District 2 of San Diego City Council

This past weekend, the Point Loma and Ocean Beach Democratic Club endorsed local candidate Mandy Havlik for the City Council race in District 2.

In their emailed announcement, the Club reported:

Both Nicole Crosby and Mandy Havlik attended and answered a wide arrange of questions moderated by Dave Fisher, President.

They also noted:

The morning of our endorsement consideration Josh Coyne’s campaign notified us that he would not be attending our meeting, they also failed to complete our candidate questionnaire that had been sent to all our Democratic candidates.

In a final word to their membership and the public, they state:

Vote for Mandy Havlik — our endorsed candidate for San Diego City Council District 2 in the Primary Election on June 2, 2026.

  1. I would like to hear from someone who knows what specifically caused them to endorse Havlik over the other candidate, Nicole Crosby. This short informational piece didn’t contain the reasoning. Perhaps one of the club members can chime in here and add that information.

  2. It would be nice to know where she stands on trash fees and parking fees. Also, more new taxes and fees versus eliminating bloat and waste at city hall.

  3. Hmmm I’m wondering if she has any experience or education is finance? Budgeting? SD City Council is in dire need of someone who has financial hands on experience, preferably of a business. Only 1, Kent Lee has education in finance, but no experience, on the entire City council and Mayor. And look what that got for San Diego. They took SD from being in the Black to being deep in the Red budget, and still heavily traveled streets have huge pot holes and many other city needs, but they got what they wanted for their buddies, and contractor perks.

  4. From what I’ve seen pro environment, pro ADU, and pro keep the 30ft height limit. No telling what her resume is other than mom, neighbor, and activist.

  5. It’s my understanding that Mandy supports the ability of homeowners to build or — or even more — ADU’s on their property, depending on lot size, availability of parking, impact on infrastructure and quality of life.
She opposes multi-unit ADU projects, and also opposed the “Bonus ADU” program. She is a strong supporter of reasonalbe limits on ADU construction.

  6. From what I know about Mandy, she definitely has the community’s best interest at heart. (Unlike Jen Campbell who sold our neighborhood out to the highest bidder). Mandy opposes STVRs, Balboa Park parking fees, and development at all cost.
I would love to see the Rag publish an interview with all candidates so we can be informed about their positions.

  7. SO PLEASED that Mandy is endorsed by the Democrats. Mandy is an amazingly committed individual who has boundless energy and enthusiasm for making life better for all of us. She is not afraid to speak truth to power and does not back down. For many years Mandy has served (and continues to serve) on numerous committees, Planning Boards and projects. She knows us, knows our community. District 2 needs Mandy to represent us on San Diego’s City Council.

  8. Just my opinion, but I wanted to respond to a few of the comments shared before mine. Mandy Havlik earned the Point Loma / OB Democratic Club endorsement because she offers what San Diego is missing: independent leadership, real community experience, and the courage to challenge broken systems. As highlighted in the OB Rag, she didn’t win this lightly. She stood out through interviews, policy depth, and years of hands-on civic service.
To those asking why Mandy over Nicole Crosby: the Club evaluates candidates on trust, record, and community impact. Mandy’s long history of planning and neighborhood boards, and her willingness to push back when policies hurt residents, made the difference.
On fees and the budget: Mandy believes San Diego cannot tax its way out of waste. She supports cutting bloat, demanding transparency, and protecting residents from endless parking and trash fees, while still funding essential services.
She may not be a career politician or developer insider, but that’s the point. Mandy brings real-world budgeting and decision-making experience from years of board and nonprofit leadership. The deficit was created by insiders. It will be fixed by people willing to question them!
Her land-use stance is clear and balanced:
    • Pro-environment
    • Defends the 30-ft coastal height limit
    • Supports reasonable homeowner ADUs
    • Opposes investor-driven ADU complexes
    • Opposed the Bonus ADU program
    • Prioritizes parking, infrastructure, and neighborhood livability
Mandy Havlik stands for smart growth, fiscal accountability, transparency, and real community voice. That’s why she earned this endorsement, and why I feel she deserves our vote!

  9. Given what I know of the candidates at this time, Mandy is my choice for District 2!
My wife & I want a candidate who will not become a Todd Gloria sycophant! City council
office holders should set the example for frugality at this time of fiscal shortfalls! and this includes the Mayor and his staff. Moreover, many on the Mayor’s staff given their youth
& brief governmental and/or business experience appear to be lightweights.
