First comes the sighting of a Venezuelan boat.
Just about any fishing boat will suffice.
Next, fixing the target in a missile’s
crosshairs. Followed by a dramatic
blasting of the vessel. Bright flash
of light ensues, conveniently captured
by camera for later media airing.
Definitely a winning war formula –
if demonstrations of U.S. power and might
are the main objective and formal
declarations no more sought after
than floating boat blast survivors.
Still, many feel the need to speak up, ask
irritating questions about hard luck boat
crew members. Were they drug smugglers?
Fishermen? Terrorists? Can they be construed
as enemy combatants? And what about names?
Surely, they have individual names?
Why not release the names?
Tough guy bravado is often expressed
by the phrase “Kick ass and take names,”
reflecting a desire to dominate, combined
with a notion that names of the defeated
are to be recorded and tallied after
each violent, victorious encounter.
But it appears the second part of this saying
is no longer required, streamlined
to a bare bones “Kick ass.” Individual names
of the evaporated sinisterly downplayed.
No use complicating matters with trite concepts
like evidence or elements of humanity.
A new, simple winning war formula
– Strike the boats, then strike off the names
– devised by the same folks fixated
on replacing an old bronze Pentagon plaque
with one guaranteeing much more
dramatic firepower in its name.

Can we just ship Hegseth to the Hague for the War Crime trial that’s coming? Since it’s been done in international waters where I assume they would have jurisdiction, just let the World Court try him (no corrupt MAGA judges like so many of ours) and, if found guilty, hang him?
