New Polling: Americans Disapprove of Israel in Gaza, Disapprove Trump’s Immigration Policies and Tariffs – Say Economy Is Getting Worse; Overall Disapproval of Trump’s Job Hits Record Low of 37%

Only 32% Approve of Israel military action in Gaza — Americans’ support for Israel in Gaza plummets to record low, new Gallup poll finds

Americans’ approval of Israel’s military action in Gaza has fallen 10 percentage points since the prior measurement in September, and it is now at 32%, the lowest reading since Gallup first asked the question in November 2023. Disapproval of the military action has now reached 60%.

These findings are from a July 7-21, 2025, Gallup poll, as Israel’s campaign against Hamas stretched into its 21st month. Americans supported Israel’s actions in Gaza in its initial reading in 2023, taken several weeks after the Oct. 7 Hamas attack. Since then, disapproval has outpaced approval in each survey, peaking at 55% in March 2024 before dipping to 48% in two readings later in the year. Gallup Poll

Immigration — Support for Deporting All Undocumented Migrants Dropped to 38%

Americans’ views of immigration have swung drastically upward in the past year, with a new poll showing record-high support for immigration amid President Donald Trump’s controversial mass deportation campaign. A record 79 percent of American adults think immigration is good for the country, according to a new Gallup poll released Friday. And the number of Americans who want immigration reduced dropped sharply from 55 to 30 percent since last year’s poll.

Meanwhile, disapproval of Trump’s immigration approach outweighs approval by 27 points, potentially complicating the president’s strategy on a policy area that he has made a cornerstone of his presidential agenda. aBut as Trump’s crackdown has intensified, Americans’ negative views on immigration have reversed. According to Gallup, the record-high approval of immigration is largely due to an upswing in Republicans’ views — 64 percent of Republicans said immigration was beneficial to the country, jumping from 39 percent last year.

Support for immigration has remained consistently high among Democrats, with 91 percent saying immigration is positive, while independents ticked up from 66 percent in 2024 to 80 percent this year.

The sharp change in Americans’ perception of immigration suggests that the fears on which Trump focused his campaign have diminished. And as worries about immigration subside, so does support for harsh measures to stop or reverse it.

Support for deporting all undocumented immigrants dropped to 38 percent from 47 percent last year, when it reached a “unique” high as Trump made it a policy promise during his campaign. Current levels of approval for mass deportations of undocumented immigrants now match where they stood in 2019, at 37 percent. Politico.com

Tariffs and International Trade — Only 38% Approve

Trump’s approval on tariffs and international trade also isn’t great: 38.1 percent approval vs. 54.4 percent disapproval. That’s a net approval rating of -16.3. Is that number better than his post-Liberation Day tariff approval low of -20.2? Yes. But when tariffs are in the spotlight for long enough, Trump’s approval rating tends to suffer. Nate Silver

Overall Trump Approval / Disapproval — Job Approval Rating Dipped to 37%

Six months into his second term, President Donald Trump’s job approval rating has dipped to 37%, the lowest of this term and just slightly higher than his all-time worst rating of 34% at the end of his first term. Trump’s rating has fallen 10 percentage points among U.S. adults since he began his second term in January, including a 17-point decline among independents, to 29%, matching his lowest rating with that group in either of his terms.

For their part, Republicans’ ratings have remained generally steady near 90% and Democrats have been consistently in the low single digits. Gallup

  1. As a Progressive here in Texas it is important every so often to say “Thank You” to our Progressive friends in California. Your leadership, diligence, and persistence with the resistance is what will help us to overcome this fascist regime. AGAIN. Never forget how much we look up to you. You are definitely not taken for granted.

  2. It’s incredibly irresponsible for this article to lump Israel’s war against Hamas in with Trump’s deportation agenda and tariffs, as if these are all the same category of political overreach. That framing subtly equates a democracy defending itself from a genocidal terror group with morally dubious domestic policies.

There’s also zero context on why Israel’s military actions continue: no mention of the remaining hostages, Hamas’s use of human shields, or the daily rocket fire that still targets Israeli civilians. And not a single word about the global rise in antisemitism or the fear Jewish students are facing on campuses.

This isn’t journalism, it’s propaganda dressed up as polling data.

    1. Propaganda is, as propaganda does Margaret. Article title is “3 thoughts…” This is an opinion piece about polling results. It is not investigative journalism and does not in anyway purport to be.

For the record Margaret, your opinion itself, is wholly void of any mention of atrocities against killing innocent civilians.

Ya miay want to consider trying to find context by giving the investigative journalism at democracynow.org a look, and specifically the incredibly brave life-threatening investigative reporting work of Jeremy Scahill has done. Especially considering that Bibi eliminated Israel’s freedom of the press and has legally forbade and threatened members of the international press and Israel’s own journalists from reporting on any atrocities. This is generally considered an action Authoritarians take henceforth the parallel drawn in the “opinion” piece.

The elimination of press freedoms and press protections leads to nothing but propaganda.
