July 4th Protests in San Diego County

Hillcrest, San Diego

Escondido

ESCONDIDO, CA – July 3, 2025 – A coalition of North County San Diego organizations will host a pro-democracy, pro-community rally on Friday, July 4th at 10:00 AM Pacific to reaffirm the value of the immigrant community in Escondido and their rightful place in America.

The rally, organized by Indivisible North County San Diego, We the People, and 50501 North County San Diego, will take place at the corner of E Valley Parkway and Ash Street in Escondido (e.g. 1201 E Valley Pkwy, Escondido, CA 92027).

During the event, participating organizations will share vital information with the public on how to support the local immigrant community, including:

  • How to report sightings of immigration enforcement
  • How to join community patrols documenting immigration enforcement activities
  • Know-your-rights information and placards for encounters with individuals claiming to be federal law enforcement

“On this 249th anniversary of American Independence, we stop to reflect and think about what makes this country great,” said Richard Cannon, an organizer with 50501 North County San Diego. “America has always been and always will be a nation of immigrants, from the first waves of European immigrants fleeing famine arriving at Ellis Island, to families from Central and South America seeking asylum and a better life for their family. In this dangerous time where U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents are being targeted for illegal arrest and detention by federal immigration officials because of the color of their skin, the public is pushing back. This is not a country strictly for white immigrants, it is a country for anyone looking to work hard and make a better life for their family.”

The Independence Day rally builds on the momentum from the nationwide ‘No Kings’ Rally on June 14th, which saw 5-12 million people participate across the country, including 3,000 in Escondido. This event represents a continued community-driven effort to provide support and resources while celebrating the democratic values that define America.

July 4th Protests Across America

A new wave of protests against President Donald Trump’s administration is set to boycott the traditional parades and fireworks that celebrate America’s Independence this week.

The group Indivisible, the grassroots organization that orchestrated the “No Kings” demonstrations on June 14, is joining with other activist groups like Women’s March to make July 4 a day of defiant messaging aimed at the current government. The “No Kings” events brought out an estimated more than five million people on the president’s birthday which also coincided with a massive military parade to celebrate 250 years of the U.S. Army and Flag Day.

The People’s Union USA, the same group responsible for organizing protests of major retailers like Target and McDonalds, is calling their event “the most important boycott of the year.”

  1. It is difficult for me to believe there isn’t a 4th of July protest in San Diego today or tomorrow!!

  2. I imagine the protests today will be an important catharsis on this complicated day. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Truly, these activities could have been posted days ahead of the scheduled protests. I checked into the Rag yesterday eve & saw nothing. Today-protests.
If we are going to take down the fascists, then adept communication must be part of the plan.

    1. JHC! – We got the notice just yesterday; sorry we’re not up to your standards; I was out cashing my big check from George Soros. (When was the last time you contributed to the Rag I’m wondering …)

    2. Hello,

We will try to send these press releases out a bit earlier so you have more time to plan.

You can always check https://www.mobilize.us/map/ to look for protests near you. For example, the next large one will be Thursday, July 19th (Good Trouble, anniversary of John Lewis’ passing) in multiple locations in San Diego.

  4. Thank you for promoting my protest in Hillcrest. The people were great. The signs were so awesome. We stood in our power together.

  5. Frank,
Not throwing shade upon the Rag. I was out of town & checking for protests daily. Flew home on 7/3 so I could participate. Put in miles through OB on my bike instead. When protest marches are posted, I go. I guess I’ve done about four so far this year in San Diego.
    George Soros still alive?!

      1. Grouchy be damn good! A bit o’ grouch, some skepticism & grumpiness paired with a touch of optimism will certainly help you grow towards age-related grumpdilicious gracefully (add good diet & exercise).

  6. What kind of idiots actually believed a protest would work on July 4th? ALL people really wanted to do was eat, drink, go swimming and play volleyball. Really poor planning. lol

    1. The kind of idiots that organized 1000s of protesters in LA outside city hall on the 4th. Gee, sorry to disturb your eating and drinking on the 4th. Some Americans are not too excited to celebrate with the authoritarian in the White House – and believe he has created similar conditions that stirred colonists to revolt 250 years ago.

    2. Here’s a thought, maybe people can do more than 1 thing in a day. Now who’s an…never mind.
