The Unsinkable Frank Gormlie

Dear Rag Readers:

I just got off the phone with Editordude Frank Gormlie. He certainly didn’t sound like a man who just underwent successful bypass surgery. Frank’s voice was clear, and his mood was mellow. But knowing Frank, that mood is transitory: The morning after his surgery, he was irked because the hospital was late in bringing him breakfast. It was an early and sure sign that he’s well on the road to recovery.

Frank is scheduled to return home later this week, and he will likely be back at the Rag helm late next week. Then he’ll pick up where he left off — scanning the regional landscape for progressive news, posting lots of bulletins, and keeping us apprised of who’s doing good, who’s up to no good, and what we can — and should — do about it.

Best wishes, Kate Callen (a poor substitute for the Editordude who can hardly wait until he gets back)

  1. You are performing a great service, Kate, everyone thanks you.

As for editor dude, it’s good to see you mending well. Take your time relax. Come back ready to roll and really disappoint all those bureaucrats who thought – nay hoped – maybe they were rid if you.

  2. We’re so glad to hear Frank is recovering well and not the least bit surprised he’s keeping the hospital on schedule. LOL. More seriously, Frank’s voice is essential to this community and reminds us of what grassroots journalism can and should be. His dedication to truth, justice, and keeping us all informed and engaged is invaluable, especially in this day and age, and are looking forward to his return, but more than anything, we’re just grateful he’s on the mend!

With appreciation and care for all you do Editordude,
    Bruce & Alana

      1. HA! I want a copy of the picture. How do we order one from the RAG?

Hi Frank, if you feel as good as your pic looks, you are doing well! LMK when you have a recovery party in LM. Hi to Patty too.

  3. I do worry a bit about his sanity. I had a few of those hospital breakfasts a few months ago. It’s hard to believe anyone would complain about it coming late, the complaints should have been about what they call breakfast.

  4. Frank,
My husband had a triple bypass over a decade ago and his heart is still strong. Just took a recovery week or two to regain strength. Take your time and heal your way. Your body will let you know what it needs. Take a breath and smell a rose!

  5. Thanks Kate for filling in for Frank – big shoes to fill which you have done so well.

As for Frank, I am delighted, as likely others as well, to hear “The morning after his surgery, he was irked because the hospital was late in bringing him breakfast. It was an early and sure sign that he’s well on the road to recovery. Get well soon!

  6. Hey Frank, please but not surprised that you’re recovering so well. Looking forward to seeing you back at the helm. Meanwhile, Kate is doing a great job keeping us informed during your absence.

  7. All blessings to Frank for a continued recovery, and to Kate and everyone who has kept the Rag afloat! Thank you!

  8. Mr. EditorDude, hard to believe you’ve just had a major by-pass surgery and going home later this week!! Seems you’ve decided you’re going to break records on returning to work. GOOD for YOU. Glad to hear you’re doing so well, take care, and don’t deviate too far from the Dr.’s orders. Kate’s done a great job in your absence, so there’s no rush to push yourself.

  9. Glad the recovery Is going so well. Certainly miss you and your comments. I’m looking forward to your return.

  10. Hey there, Editordude! You might have heard there’s been a rumor floating around that Kate’s done such a fine job of keeping up the OB Rag in your absence that she’s been nominated to take over for good. Kidding! No one could fill your big shoes, give chase to our city’s worthless bureaucrats, nor keep us in line quite like you can. I’m so happy to hear you’re recovering nicely and already displaying your irrefutable spunk. It just goes to show you can’t keep a good man down. Heal well and fully, and see you again real soon!

  11. Hey everyone, I’m back at home beginning my recuperation. Thanks for all the good words and thoughts (Kate used an ancient photo of me). I’ll start to pick up next week. Meanwhile, there’s a “No Kings” human banner action this upcoming Sunday in OB.

  12. Dear Frank, Glad to hear you are home and doing well. Getting old is the pitts aint it? I still remember when we were 19 or 20 in OB. Warmly, Jamie Berg
