A fire in a carport broke out late Monday night, March 17, and caused an estimated $350,000 worth of damage to an Ocean Beach home.
Just after 11:30 p.m. Monday the fire erupted and then spread into an adjacent residential garage that had been converted into living quarters, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
It took crews just over a half-hour to get the flames under control.
Investigators set the monetary losses at $300,000 to the structure and $50,000 to contents. The cause of the blaze remained undetermined Tuesday, according to SDFRD public affairs.
Locals familiar with Muir know that it’s one of the narrowest residential streets in the community. Often cars traveling in opposite directions have to pull over to allow the other to proceed.

A salute to the firefighters for saving the homes right next to this place. I witnessed the fire and the huge flames coming from the burning house. I just assumed that there would be more buildings burned of which three of them were within less than 10 feet from the destroyed house and appeared nearly undamaged. Incredible job!
Thank you SDFD.
