Support CVS Workers Boycott Action this Wednesday at CVS in Ocean Beach for 3 Hours
UFCW Calls for Boycott of CVS Until a New Contract Deal is Reached
UFCW Local 135 is ramping up pressure on CVS Pharmacy with a boycott action this Wednesday, October 2, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the nonunion CVS location in Ocean Beach at 4949 Santa Monica Avenue.
Union members will be out encouraging customers to boycott CVS, transfer their prescriptions to unionized grocery pharmacies, and cancel their CVS ExtraCare+ memberships. This action follows last week’s overwhelming vote by CVS workers across California to authorize an unfair labor practice (ULP) strike if necessary.
With bargaining scheduled to resume on October 16, UFCW Local 135 has been engaging in weekly boycott actions to pressure CVS to return to the table with a fair contract proposal. CVS workers have been working under an expired contract for almost three months, while the company continues to push back against demands for fair wages, better benefits, and improved working conditions.
Todd Walters, President of UFCW Local 135, emphasized the importance of public support during this critical time for CVS workers:
“Our members at CVS have worked tirelessly through the pandemic, providing essential healthcare services to the public. Now, they are simply asking for what they deserve – fair compensation, safe working conditions, and respect from the company. We urge customers to stand with these workers by boycotting CVS until they come back to the bargaining table with a fair offer.”
The recent strike authorization vote allows CVS workers to initiate a ULP strike if no agreement is reached during the next round of negotiations. In the meantime, UFCW Local 135 members will continue to engage the public in boycott actions, ensuring that CVS hears their message loud and clear.
Statewide, more than 7,400 UFCW members from eight Locals, covering almost 400 CVS Pharmacies, are part of this bargaining unit. Union members are fighting for fair pay and benefits that recognize their essential role, safe staffing levels to prevent theft, burnout, and dangerous working conditions, as well as affordable and comprehensive health benefits to protect their well-being.
