Editordude Speechless – a Rarity – at Support Shown OB Rag in Fundraising

Goal of $3,000 Surpassed Over Weekend

I am speechless and overwhelmed at the support the Rag has received these last few days during our summer fundraising campaign. And that is a rarity.

We began the campaign last Wednesday, August 7, and set a goal of $3,000. We nearly reached that in just 3 days. And over the weekend, the outpouring of monetary donations not only got us to the goal but shot us to a total so far of $3,730! And that’s not counting pledges and checks sent the Rag to our PO Box.

Some of this support came from new friends in the mid-city, University City and the Hillcrest area – but most of it came from readers in OB and Point Loma. We also have friends in Lemon Grove, El Cajon, Massachusetts and Arizona.

So – thanks so much to all of you who supported us (we usually send out individual thank-you cards). You are amazing. And — we can now call off the campaign.

Later in the week, I’ll do a wrap up and publish some of the comments people made with their contributions.

I love this one:

“We do love the OB Rag and have so much respect for your shining the light on what’s going on in Ocean Beach and San Diego. Thank you for keeping journalism alive.”

A former lawyer and current grassroots activist, I have been editing the Rag since Patty Jones and I launched it in Oct 2007. Way back during the Dinosaurs in 1970, I founded the original Ocean Beach People’s Rag - OB’s famous underground newspaper -, and then later during the early Eighties, published The Whole Damn Pie Shop, a progressive alternative to the Reader.

  1. I can attest to the statement that editor dude is seldom at a loss for words. That is great news for everyone.

  2. It’s a great day for local independent journalism. Congrats to all at the OB Rag and its contributors for the well-deserved support from the community.
