Sunday in the Neighborhood – Rain, Rainbows, Runners and RBG

By Colleen O’Connor

The wind, weather, and small craft advisories did not stop great fun in the greater Point Loma/Ocean Beach neighborhoods. Crowded streets were non-existent while the weather commanded attention. Rain, winds, and small craft advisories.

First, the many calculations on rain and winds fluctuated wildly, but most came true. Over time, they ranged from 1.2 inches of to .5 of rain, with wind gusts from 20-30 mph. The two-day rain tally hit .85…and winds did whistle by at 20 to 30 mph.

Early on Sunday, a rainbow appeared, disappeared, appeared again and then became a double rainbow in the sky with fabulous clouds, more wind and some sun.

Meanwhile, at Liberty Station, runners were jogging along, in Sunday morning’s Half Marathon 5K run, cheered on by family and friends and noisemakers galore. Also in abundance, dozens of pine cones wind shaken from the pine trees nearby.

Then there was the OB surf crashing into the eroding cliffs, providing spectacular views of the clouds, the ocean, and the still closed OB pier.

Finishing the day, a timely one-act play at Balboa Theater by multiple Tony award-winning playwright, Rupert Holmes, “All Things Equal.” Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Her defining moment in a single quote, “The weather of the time can be changed by the climate of the era.”

All gone by tomorrow. Enjoy every day in your neighborhood.

  1. Her defining moment was when she decided she liked the limelight better than retirement and stayed too long thereby allowing Trump to appoint her successor to the Court which wiped out any legacy she had when the right to choose and and other laws were set rapidly aside
