OB and other San Diego coasts are once again being hit with higher-than-normal tides. But this round is expected to be the last of the winter season.
King tides — the phenomenon that describes what are typically some of the highest tides of the year — are happening now and will continue on Friday and Saturday.
Thursday morning had a high tide of around 7 feet combined with waves of 6 to 8 feet. Friday morning’s tide will also be around the same height, but because the size of the surf is dropping, there is less risk of coastal flooding, NBC 7 meteorologist Greg Bledsoe explained.
