February 2nd to February 10th Human Rights Watch Festival Museum of Photographic Arts at San Diego Museum of Arts 1649 El Prado, San Diego 92101 Across from the Lily Pond The San Diego Human Rights Watch Film Festival will feature critically acclaimed films on topics including the rights of LGBTQ+ teens, family separation, refugee rights, disability rights and the right to free and independent press in Native American tribes. February 3rd 7:30 am The 6th Annual Women of Color Roar Breakfast: Our Time – Sixty Years of Triumph Joe and Vi Jacobs Center Celebration Room 404 Euclid Ave, San Diego 92114   From Fannie Lou Hamer being beaten and jailed for trying to vote to Black Women serving as Secretary of State, Vice President of the United States, and on the Supreme Court. We have Black women mayors in major cities, serving in Congress and state legislatures. In San Diego, we elected the first Black woman to the County Board of Supervisors. In 2024, we will honor and celebrate the progress we’ve made. In the past five years, community members of all racial and ethnic groups have come together to honor women leaders in our community. We have sponsored over 500 high school and college age young women “Future Leaders,” to attend as our special guests. February 3rd. Saturday 10 am – 11:45 am What is the role of the US Attorney’s Office in addressing gun violence? Event by San Diegans for Gun Violence Prevention  We will be joined by U.S. Attorney Tara McGrath, the chief federal law enforcement official in San Diego. Ms. McGrath will greet members and emphasize the DOJ’s commitment to safe neighborhoods and gun violence prevention. Executive Assistant U.S. Attorney Cindy Cipriani will then share how the DOJ’s Project Safe Neighborhood program is implemented in San Diego, including gun trafficking and violent crime enforcement, groundbreaking research, prevention approaches and the district’s micro-grant program.  We will also have our team reports and an opportunity to chat. February 6th Tuesday 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm Mexico Solidarity Project West Coast Speaking Tour Event by San Diego Mexico Solidarity Coalition, Employee Rights Center, Activist San Diego, Liberation Road Employee Rights Center 4161 Home Avenue Suite 201 2nd floor of Laborers Union building.  Journalist & activist José Luis Granado Ceja brings the news & the story of the “4th transformation”, which is inspiring our neighbors to the south. He studied the labor, women’s and social movements. He’s documented the progressive rise to power of Lopez Obrador and the MORENA party. Mexico’s upcoming election will likely bring its first woman President seeking to usher in a new era of left-progressive politics. 4O million US Latin@’s and Mexican immigrant families, are bound to start thinking about social conditions in the US and seek to make changes. We welcome students, educators, and lifelong-learners to join us for an online author event and virtual conversation with actor, author, and civil rights activist George Takei. It makes owning an EV a no-brainer for anyone with a home garage. However, it’s not so easy for those living in apartments or condominiums. Communities in Charge is a program being administered in San Diego by Grid Alternatives to implement Level 2 charging where communities live and gather. Oil is advocating for the San Diego City Council to pass a resolution supporting the Campaign for a Safe and Health California and keeping SB1137, the state law passed in 2022 to prohibit new or modified oil and gas wells within 3,200 feet of homes, schools, daycare centers, parks, healthcare facilities, and businesses.
