Sunset Cliffs As You’ve Never Seen Them

This awe inspiring video of Sunset Cliffs by Charles Landon is a must see.

These are views of the cliffs that are rarely seen. And yes, it’s a reposting of Charles’ video from last October.

Original music by Phil Rockhold.

  1. Nice photography, although the video somewhat neglects the park south of Ladera St. with only a couple of brief shots at the end which isn’t enough to do that large area justice. Catchy music, too.

  2. A lot more erosion since I moved away

Does anyone have a photo of the natural stone arch that used to be by Bird Rock?

    1. I learned how to surf at the cliffs – you remember – no leashes, no stairs – it was hairy. But we were young and could do anything. Going in at garbage on Christmas Day with only one of those ducktail top wetsuits on.

  3. Yep, I had one of those used diving suit, too, that fastened with metal turn-buckles on the front that was the most uncomfortable thing to wear but dang it was SO much better than wearing a pendleton longsleeve…

But sliding in the mud with wet feet swollen and all wrinkly and white from a three hour session trying to get a grip so one could climb back up the cliff with a damned longboard (at whichever place you were at) could be a nightmare. Then add in a high tide… oh yeah, I remember those scruffy days because I’m only a few years behind you, Frank!!

Of course then I’d finally get to the top to find my lock cut off my bike and have to walk all the way back to Granny K’s apartment on Del Monte. But yeah, we were young and could do anything and Granny would bustle around making her tsk-tsk sounds about another bike being stolen and whipping me up a bowl of soup and a sandwich and getting out the cherry Jello with cut-up bananas in it…

Memories, eh Frank? We have a ton of ’em!
