It’s Official — Ocean Beach Pier to Reopen in July

It is official! The Ocean Beach Pier will reopen in July — this July 2023. Date uncertain. See this video by Charles Landon of a portion of Saturday’s pier workshop at Liberty Station.

  1. Interestingly, in the video the presenter says that the pier substructure, i.e. the pilings and what holds the pier up, is sound. Then he cautions that we are not to take this as that we don’t need a new pier. This is confusing at least to me, and my main concern about a new pier is that it is going to become a loud and garish tourist draw rather than the pleasant, relaxing structure it now is. Is this all some sort of developer commercial idea? Just my observations and thoughts.

  2. Per OBTC-We have great news to share! The Ocean Beach Pier is reopening to the public this weekend ahead of the 57th anniversary of the pier’s grand opening on July 2, 1966, and just in time for the Fourth of July holiday
