Over the past week or so, members of the Ocean Beach Town Council elected five new directors to its board. And they are:
- Tracy Dezenzo
- Mara Cunningham
- Deanna Polk
- Anna Firicano
- Gregory Winter
The announcement was made on the OBTC facebook page and was called a “record turnout” in a special election held after many community leaders demanded one.
The OB Rag wants to congratulate and welcome the new directors. And we also wish you the best of luck and urge you to help unravel and resolve the current crisis within the OB Town Council.

I’m excited to get to work on the year end fund raising initiatives. So many great events happen between now and the end of the year and it takes an OB/PL army of volunteers to pull them off. If anyone would like to help out at any one of the community events, now is the time to let the Town Council know. Planning is already in the works.

GREAT to see Jim Musgrove’s name is NOT on the list. Good work, OB.
Stacie Woehrle needs to resign. Now that the board has filled their seats, perhaps she finally will. All of OB knows that Mark Winkie’s personal indiscretion was also her personal indiscretion. A few board members used it as a way to remove Mark (suggesting his leadership was in question), while others resigned due to the double standard. And while it happened, Stacie sat silent. Even when she was directly asked to resign by other board members at the closed meeting in July. Crickets. She quietly watched as Mark took the fall even though she was equally accountable. Either both of them should still be on the board or neither of them should be. (and none of this drama would have happened). As long as she remains, our community will repeatedly be reminded of this stain on the OBTC.
“Personal indiscretion”? What century are we living in? Why are you even writing about personal actions of other adults? Were you personally hurt or damaged by their actions? C’mon, grow up!
I’m very excited to have new people in the board and I always look forward to the volunteer opportunities. This year, however, the question comes to mind: Who’s husband will she sleep with next? As long as she is on the board, there are several of our local community members who will be boycotting the service that we normally love to engage in. Does anybody think that Stacie will finally do the right thing and step aside, so that we can feel comfortable in our good deeds?

After all this time and all that has been said, we finally see what the “indiscretion” might have been – somebody slept with somebody else! Oh, the shame and stain on our community!
Grow up, people. Unless there were elements of coercion or harassment, this matters only to the individuals, their partners and their families. And, by the way, if this was an issue serious enough to involve the entire community and the body of a community organization, why all the coy shrouding of the depraved act? Some of us are adults, I think.

That’s what this was all about?! What the hell, is the OBTC made up of Puritans? How did anything like this affect Winkie’s service to the community? This is ridiculous.

Just out of curiosity, what event planning company is used for OB Town Council events?
The ‘event company’ IS the OBTC itself. They contract out some services as needed/required by the City permitting (security/transportation etc), but the events are 99.99% OBTC board/volunteer planned/run.
Ok, I’ll bite. And which company or companies does the OBTC contract out with? And for what?
Frank~ The OBTC hire Service Vendors for things like, Tables & Chairs for Pancake Breakfast & the Griddles, Golf Carts, Fencing, Sound EQ for the Parade & a few other things> From the past OBTC goes out to BID, gets 3 BIDS & submit to the OBTC for Approval, the word on the street is Corey own’s a Media & etc Company so OBTC used with out going outside for BIDS & he was Treasurer & wrote his own check!? The rag should really stop encouraging this nonsense to continue. The entire episode was supposedly over some board members improperly forcing Mark to resign over personal behavior and losing sight of what’s best for the community.
So how about we all take a bit of our own advice and lay off the personal matters and continued attacks on OBTC. It serves no one.

What upsets many is how it was handed out unevenly. The board has its numbers back up, we’re at the end of this episode, so it’s time for the other party to step down.
If the personal don’t matter then the other person should not be forced out. I realize the 1st go was a huge mistake they’ll never admit, but 2 wrongs don’t make a right… it’s just more wrong.

Geoff, the US was invaded by Puritans tossed out of England and they’ve been a outsized stain on the ethical conduct and laws of us all ever since. The early history of incredibly harsh barbaric acts committed by those people in the name of their god is a really nasty read so it’s no surprise that in 2021 the Scarlet Letter A is still being ‘branded’ into people’s foreheads for conduct ‘unbecoming.’ Imagine how life here would have been if the Mayflower foundered with all hands. Very different!
In this country the generally held view is that it’s the guy’s fault for ‘not keeping it in his pants’ so it’s no wonder she is still on the board because one never hears ‘put a plug in it’ being directed towards the willing co-conspirator. Rather sexist in that respect and actually denigrates a woman’s ability to choose her behavior. Yeah, she needs to take a walk into obscurity also even though there was NO impact on how they were conducting OBTC business whatsoever. But fair is fair and she should realize that herself.
Congrats to the new members! May you learn from your predecessors successes and mistakes and take the council to a new level of competence and get stuff done that makes a difference!

Definitely not! It is really horrible that the OBTC had double standards and forced Mark to resign which led to my resignation & others on the board due to the by laws not being followed. I do not do drama but these are true facts & should not be brushed under the rug. I asked on our private Board zoom meeting for Stacie Woehrle to resign which she did not & the board moved on doing nothing. The community should be aware! How can we trust a board that doesn’t go by the bylaws & elects a new president without the community’s say in it. As a former boardmember and a community member I am very involved in all the community cleanup ups and a lot of things that go on here in OB then to be told thank you for your time on the board when I resigned was a slap in the face. This is the last I will be involved in this but the facts are right in front of us. See my resignation letter below

Dear Board Members:
I would like to address my concerns regarding the way the recent situation was handled. The way that you went about removing the president of the town council was improper. I don’t feel that due process was followed, and we did not go by the bylaws. I think as a businesswoman, I’m looking into this as being very unethical and dishonest. Your lack of responsibility for writing the letter without everyone involved has really been bothering me.
I also would like to rescind my signature from that letter to Mark that did not follow the bylaws as I don’t feel it’s fair or right. This feels like a double standard. I signed the letter under duress. The president was asked to come to the town council with us and talk about his personal mistake. I do not see what part of the leadership he has not performed nor do I see a valid lack of leadership issue. I was never informed of the actual leadership duties that the president failed to perform.
That being said, this is my resignation letter. As a community member who volunteers on a regular basis, I would love to continue to work along side the council on any events coming up that I have already committed to. I’m going honor my commitment to be there!

Amazing~ Your Post & letter is to the Point!! A lot of people need to realize to serve on a Community Group is very Special, not something that you put on the bottom of your resume as “Look what I did” Volunteers are very Special People, people come to me all the time & say I want to volunteer only for an hour, I tell them no problem, 1 hour is worth a lot> My Goal is to make it fun so they want to stay longer or do it again! I have volunteers who send me Christmas Cards!! For the SD Blues, I had 921OB shirts printed & fun Guitar Beads for my front volunteers, I want you to want to do it again! FYI I volunteered at the Restaurant Walk 2 years ago checking in with two new people & when we were done, we never received a Thank You & I made the mistake & asked a OBTC member “Where did you get that shirt printed & the answer I got was “Does it Matter’ I said sure it does because you did not use a LOCAL Merchant!! Thats how trouble starts~~ The new people who are on Board now & some previous people seem Positive & will serve the Board well!! Just need to make those few changes~~ Super Job Christie c

Well doesn’t that NOT astound me. I mean, isn’t that what we have all come to expect from politicians? Sad to say…OBTC is not immune.
The Talking Heads song literally just went through my head. Same as it ever was.
So is anybody doing concrete research on this? Documentation, email search between members on this subject? Hell, a little adultery and out goes the former president but not a break in the bidding for outside contracts such as this just slides on by…and he gets to put president on his resume and pocket the cash. Double bonus! How cool is that?
Oh wait, isn’t this exactly what Trumpie’s group of greedy slimeballs/family members did and I’m guessing during the same time period as Cory’s possible sleight of hand shenanigans with no-bid contracts? And they all got away with it. Ain’t this a great country or what? Is my ironic disgust showing?
