It’s true. Congresswoman Susan Davis has finally moved into the pro-impeachment side of the House Democrats. Davis became the 169th Democrat to do so and was part of the impeach wave on Tuesday created by the UkraineGate scandal. (As of this writing, there are 209 House Democrats on the list.)

She tweeted out her new position on Tuesday, September 24, minute after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the House was launching an impeachment inquiry.  Here’s her full statement:

It is time to open an impeachment inquiry. To not move forward would make Congress complicit in the President’s behavior. President Trump’s actions surrounding Ukraine epitomize his disregard for checks and balances as well as normal practices and protocols

It adds to a growing list of illegal acts abuse of power showing this President does not have either the capacity or the interest to follow the rule of law. The President admitted he made the call, leveraging the power of his office to get what he wanted from a head of State.

The Director of National Intelligence has refused to send the whistleblower complaint to Congress as required by law. It has always been my approach to be as deliberate as possible when facing issues of this importance, especially when looking for unity from across the aisle.

I call on my Republican colleagues, especially those who have privately expressed exasperation with the President, to join with Democrats and protect the integrity of the office of the Presidency and our democracy.

Considering the threat to our national interest and national security, I would think my Republican colleagues would be natural allies.

We applaud Congresswoman Davis for taking the step. Back in July we called for her to come out and support impeachment. Considering she’s in one of the safest Congressional districts in Southern California, we couldn’t understand her hesitation and reluctance. Davis has never been a flaming liberal – always a centrist and moderate.

Her 53rd Congressional District has a nearly 2 to 1 advantage in voter registration – meaning it’s deep Blue. It includes eastern portions of Chula Vista, western portions of El Cajon, central and eastern portions of the city of San Diego, as well as eastern suburbs such as Bonita, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, and Spring Valley in their entirety.

Davis has held the seat since 2001, having just recently announced she’s not running for re-election, a whole crowd has jumped up and declared themselves Primary election candidates for the seat.

Looking back on her record, she started out with the League of Women Voters, going on to the SDUSD Board of Trustees, and the State Assembly before moving to  Congress.

San Diego area House reps Juan Vargas and Scott Peters have already come out for impeachment.
