Dog Beach in OB, March 4, 2017

Join hundreds of your neighbors as we create a human banner spelling out VOTE! on the sands of Ocean Beach San Diego and simultaneously in conjunction with folks up at Ocean Beach San Francisco.

We hope to create a 50 foot long human VOTE! banner on the sands at Dog Beach at 10am, Saturday, April 21st.

This year we will be coordinating with our friends in Ocean Beach San Francisco who will be creating a VOTE! banner simultaneously. Catch the Blue Wave and turn the tide by getting out the VOTE!

We’re asking that everyone wears blue and begin arriving at 10am to fill in the letters. Our aerial photo and video will taken at 11 sharp to coincide with the San Francisco event.

Please bring:
* Beach Towel or Blanket
* $1 to help cover costs of event

Looking for volunteers to arrive early to set-up the letters. Please email humanbanner@gmail.com

Ocean Beach, March 4, 2017

Last year in Ocean Beach San Diego we successfully created human RESIST and IMPEACH banners – this year our goal is to encourage fellow Americans to catch the Blue Wave and turn the tide by getting out the VOTE!

From the Organizers:

Why VOTE!

Do you remember that kick to the gut on Election night in 2016. Waking up the next day in a state of shock and despair.

Do you remember the elation as WE gathered together at the Women’s March and all the marches since, knowing that WE were not alone, that while things looked bleak WE knew that WE would prevail and WE would be stronger for it.

Those fellow resisters who joined us in Ocean Beach last March for the human banners spelling out RESIST and IMPEACH, remember the joy in being together in solidarity. WE knew WE could turn the tide.

Now WE must take that solidarity and GET OUT THE VOTE! WE must continue our resistance!

WE are already seeing the results, in Pennsylvania and Georgia special elections, Republican incumbents dropping out, a “too close to call” Senatorial race in Red State Texas. A new wave of women and minority candidates across the nation.

WE must not lose our momentum, WE still have much to do, WE must GET OUT THE VOTE! WE must Flip the 50, take the 49th, WE must oust racist Supervisors and those politicians who are bought and paid for by the NRA. For so many reasons WE must GET OUT THE VOTE!, for our children’s future, for the future of our planet. Join us Saturday as we share our message to GET OUT THE VOTE!

Thanks from Mike James – Organizer:

Thank you to Indivisible San Diego, Women’s March San Diego, SD4GVP, League of Women Voters of San Diego and Together We Will for supporting our event. They also will be volunteering to register new voters and update information for any existing voters before and after the event.

Thank you to Dave Ish and Lemeno Communications for once again providing the texting services.

Thanks to co-sponsor Frank Gormlie and the O.B. Rag for getting the word out.

Thanks to Deanna Polk for organizing the volunteers and being the catalyst for our human banners.

I’ll be there!
I am personally a life long Republican, so I may be in the minority, but I agree we all need to get out there and VOTE! ;0)

As part of I Love A Clean San Diego’s 16th Annual Creek to Bay Cleanup this Saturday morning (April 21, 9 am to 12 noon), Friends of Dog Beach and Dog Beach Dog Wash will be hosting the cleanup at Dog Beach. We will join the “VOTE!” banner, and hope those in the banner will join us to keep Dog Beach clean. We target all plastic, cigarette butts, the orphan poop pile, and other detritus left by visitors (and have toys and treats for dogs and their guardians). Come for both events and feel empowered.
