Beach residents and San Diego lovers of Bahia Point in Mission Bay are mobilizing to stop Bill Evans – the owner of the Bahia Resort Hotel – and his land grab of the public park at Bahia Point.
On January 2nd, the Mission Bay Park Committee voted to agree that Evans’ baby, the Bahia Development Plan, is consistent with the Mission Bay Master Plan. This vote so angered a room full of frustrated neighbors that they formed a group to oppose the plans. They passionately believe the Bahia Point access should be kept open for the general public.
So, a group called the Citizens and Paddlers against the Bahia Hotel land grab on Bahia Point was organized – and established a facebook page.
Now, the group is organizing a presence at the San Diego Parks and Rec Board meeting coming up on Thursday, January 18th, and hopes enough people will show to convince the Board the Evans’ plan does not sit right with the citizens of San Diego. The group states:
The San Diego City Park & Rec Board will be voting on whether the Bahia Resort expansion plan is consistent with the general Mission Bay plan. Please show up and support to the speakers or speak yourself in opposition. The more numbers that come out the more the city will see that this plan does not sit right with the citizens of San Diego.
The Parks and Rec Meeting will be Thursday at 2 PM at 2150 Pan American Rd W, San Diego, CA 92101.

this is very freaking important for obceans and point lomans and everyone in the city. this can not stand – bill evan’s take over of public land. he already has half of the point there, the entire west side of the little peninsula, now he wants it all in effect. find out who your rep is on the mission bay park committee and give them a holler.
Bahia Point is a beautiful PUBLIC place. I have rode my bike there many times and me and my son fished there. When will the builders be stopped. “Pave paradise, put up a parking lot….”

Think about it. The reality will be that the NEAREST parking to the North end of the point will be 1/3 mile IF you can find a space in the small 100-spot lot which will be full quite early. Otherwise, you’ll have to circle back and try your luck in the next nearest lots, which will be 1/2 mile away along the N side of West Mission Bay Drive. Frustrating, right? Oh – and God help you if you have anything to carry or kids because you’ll be forced along a narrow, busy 10′ wide bike path until you can find a patch of grass to call your own. The later you arrive, the further you’ll have to schlepp whatever you’re bringing. The current drive-up access will be gone FOREVER. The people of San Diego LOSE. Damn shame.
