OBceans – Beware of the Plant Vandal

A reader up on the 4500 block of Orchard sent us these photos of plant vandalism at his and a neighbor’s houses.

Senseless. Stupid. Ignorant. What can you say?

A former lawyer and current grassroots activist, I have been editing the Rag since Patty Jones and I launched it in Oct 2007. Way back during the Dinosaurs in 1970, I founded the original Ocean Beach People’s Rag - OB’s famous underground newspaper -, and then later during the early Eighties, published The Whole Damn Pie Shop, a progressive alternative to the Reader.

  1. What.
    The.
    Hell.
What kind of db goes around doing something like that?
Maybe you can stuff the cut off cactus pieces into the after-market Harley pipes of the guy up on Orchard?
    Sorry for your losses.

  2. Were all of these protruding into the sidewalk? We have a large bird of paradise that has been cut by stranger too – only the part that was in the sidewalk area. Not nearly as damaging as what was done to the cacti though!

  3. Twice in the past few years someone has cut the hell out of the beaver tail cactus in my front yard along the sidewalk on Narragansett. It’s not protruding into the right of way, it was simply vandalized. Yes, I made a police report.

  4. Honest to Pete, what kind of satisfaction can someone get out of doing this?! Here we are, working hard to save OB’s trees while someone else is whackin’ cactus down… can only hope they got a palm-full of needles! Such a shame-if they knew how long it took for that cactus to get that size maybe they would feel remorse :-(

Respect the urban biome that’s making our oxygen, its not a lot to ask!
