Friday night – December 16th – was the 75th Anniversary Party at Pacific Shores.

It was dark in there. All photos by South OB Girl

This was not an average Friday night at Pac Shores. Locals as well as people from all over the county came out for the special event.

The food was catered by Billy Butters.

Billy Butter catered a feast that was free to all who arrived before the food ran out. It was a decadent meal. Roast beef with gravy and horseradish sauce. Baked potatoes with flavored butters which Billy makes himself. Dinner rolls and salad. A full dinner.

Laid out in the back room where the pool table is. Billy’s grandfather used to cook at Pac Shores when he came back from fishing trips. It is a family tradition that Billy has continued.

Patrons arrived to see the same familiar front window in place. The remodel of the window that had begun this fall is on hold for the time being.

Those who arrived early enough enjoyed the meal catered by Billy Butters.

Staff had decorated the dimly lit interior with holiday decorations and signs celebrating the anniversary. Everyone who came in was given a raffle ticket and a few lucky raffle winners went home with 75th anniversary Pac Shores t-shirts.

Music from the 40s — the era of Pac Shores’ beginning back in 1941 – was playing until the juke box started to get loaded up with requests. And old black and white films from the 40s and 50s were playing on the tvs as well, giving an atmosphere of the time period when Pac Shores first opened 75 years ago.

Perhaps most surprising was the attire the bar staff had selected for the occasion. The two gentleman bartenders who normally wear the attire worn by many OB bartenders and OBceans in general had selected black slacks and belts, black long sleeve button down collared shirts, and black ties.

It was clear how proud the bar owner and staff are of the establishment’s long history and they were showing their pride and respect for the special occasion.

A great time was had by all — some who had come out specifically for the celebration and some who arrived for a Friday night out and walked into the anniversary party unexpectedly. It had been a cold, stormy day all day Friday– but spirits were jolly and all was merry and bright at Pac Shores celebrating 75 years.

Festive decorations, a raffle, dinner, and beverages of all kinds were flowing… It was a good time celebrating 75 years.

There would not have been a story if the owner and manager had not put in so many efforts to make it a genuinely memorable and special event.  They really put on an event to celebrate 75 years!!!  And 75 years is certainly something to celebrate!!
Cheers to 75 years,

I’ve heard the story of the three men who opened Pacific Shores, Tony’s and The Arizona. Who is the current owner of Pac Shores? Is anyone from the original family still involved?
