Just had to see snow last Saturday. It was early May and the drought was going strong.

Had heard that there had been snow falling in our local mountains on Friday, May 8th, so turned the vehicle east and headed out 8.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIt’s really a short drive to Sunrise Highway and on the way through the hills I stopped for the white stuff and the blooming flowers.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOn the way home, the sun was shining and down the same road, the snow had noticeably melted a great deal.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASuch is snow in San Diego – fleeting. And yes, we still have the drought.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAh, but the flowers (I’m still looking up the names) were just gorgeous – snow or no snow. And they’ll stick around some.

  1. Thanks for reminding us with these May Snow pix that we live in a beautiful place. Seacoast, mountain forests and desert washes in less than two hours’ drive. It’s amazing,
even after 45 years living out here. I think you’re looking at blue lupine and red Indian
    paintbrush.

    1. Yup, it melts quickly in our dry air. (I didn’t make it, my friend, just observed it.)

  2. I always dream about moving to San Diego. When friends show me photos of the Southern California beaches I drift off to a much better place. I did not realize that the inland areas around San Diego are so stunning ! Thank you for those photos. They are beyond beautiful.

    1. Thanks – it was surprising how vacate the roads were last Sat. BTW, rain & snow are forecast for end of this week.
